Not too sure though! led me to Strata Florida Abbey, no Probs.. Rode on into Forestry territory for a few miles, a maze of Nobbly tracks, got utterly lost, what an area!! so set Betty to route me Home, shortest route. Betty said 2.2miles SE enter roundabout. Great, 14 junctions and 4 miles later, press Speak. Betty says 2.4 miles turn right. I am now well and truly LOST! Conclusion, Betty is a Tosser off the Tarmac. Trusting to my Nose (it's Big) and the Sun I eventually found my way back to the Abbey, 3.5 Hours, slips and slides later, and betty is a tosserat helping to pick up the GSA.
Conclusion, SP111, 3 months old, as new, for sale. Next time use the XR250R, at least I can pick it up :D

What you have so easily found is the desire of betty to get back onto tarmac in as short as distance as possible. Which ignores reservoirs etc. I think that if you try looking for an off road option in the routing preferences, it will give the direct route to the next waypoint ignoring roads etc if you're in the same position again.

Good point, John.

One thing that is a weak point of autorouting GPSR's for dual sport riders is that they are only competent at navigation once you are on a road that is contained in the loaded cartography - and even then, the GPSR can't consider options (such as hopping across a field or gully) that the dual sport rider can see as possible.

If, as John suggests, the rider identifies a nearby waypoint that is "on the road home", then selects "off road" as the routing method, the GPSR (any of them) will draw a straight bearing line from the present position of the moto to that waypoint. The bearing line will then be dynamic - as the moto moves around in an off-road environment, the bearing line will continue to point to the target waypoint.

Once you're back on the normal automotive road surfaces, you can select your ultimate destination as the target waypoint, and choose "shortest route" or "fastest route" as desired, and the GPSR should give you competent directions to your destination.
