Took the GSA Toilet off road today for the first time. Went out for the day on my tod around the Surrey lanes starting at Bockets Farm. A fair bit of mud. Was truly amazed at how stable the bike was in the mud compared to the old GSA. The old GSA was really prone to front wheel wash outs, resulting in you being smacked to the floor. This bike felt really planted and stable - very confidence inspiring.

You really notice the extra power at the back wheel as its a whole lot easier to provoke rear wheel spin. I started off with all the electrickery switched off (ABS, traction) and in Enduro mode with a bit of extra preload. I actually found the bike more manageable with the traction control on. In contrast to the old GSA, where I found it best with the traction off. I even found the Enduro mode ABS really quite good. So ended up just in Enduro mode, with ABS and traction (which are operating in operating in off-road mode).

Can't wait to try again with the Enduro Pro plug in, which I'll get once its had the running in service this week.

What is also amazing is that the new bike feels a whole lot smaller off road than the old GSA. The seat is lower. The Centre of Gravity is lower and it feels like it's a bit further back too. Even though the new bike is heavier, it actually feels lighter in the slippery stuff.

So, a week in with 900 miles on the clock, I'm super impressed with this bike. Gearbox is knife-through-butter smooth too.

The only minor gripe I have is that the throttle could do with a bit of taming off idle in Enduro mode. When you get thrown by a bump and you inadvertently twist the throttle, the bike surges forwards. Almost binned it a couple of times due to that. Something to get used to. Wonder if Enduro Pro tames it a bit?

I used to hate taking the old GSA out in the mud. But this one is a joy !

'Amazing, confidence inspiring, planted': if you'd mentioned 'presence' Wapping would have a fit :augie
Interesting report Windychuffer, there aren't many of these with knoblies on yet. For sure the heavier flywheel makes things more stable at low speed. How do you increase the preload, do you dial in two up ?

I put it in Tesco mode: One up with luggage. :-)

To be honest I don't really have a good understanding of how the leccy suspenders work yet re preload. Will talk to off road chap at dealer this week.

Dialed in.................. :blast

I'd be interested in knowing how much "extra power" the OP found he was using in the mud..................

Al

Yup the bike has too much power for the slippery stuff which is why it was better with Traction Control on.

the Enduro mode works , up to a certain extent. Then its your tyres that make the biggest difference to how it goes in the soft stuff

.

When I bought my first GSA in '06 there was a huge wait for panniers...not so bad in '10 when I got my second one......wouldn't you think BMW would allow enough panniers and locks for the first one or two batches, as most GSA's opt for the panniers. If some don't, adjust the numbers for the third batch?

Doesn't seem like rocket science to me!...and not having panniers buggered my travel plans in '06....I ended up going to Switzerland in October!! :blast

Finally, a picture of a GSA in it's ideal surroundings and not being polished half to death:thumby:

What-on a blocked paved drive, parked on the centre stand awaiting an appointment with the hose pipe?
I'd agree :D

Sounds promising, nice little write up :)

You're using it in The VINCE aren't you? Sounds like my Husky may have some competition ;)
