What a bike!!! Was on it for an hour and thoroughly enjoyed every second of riding it. Unfortunately it was still restricted so only revved to 9k but that was more than enough, what surprised me the most was the comfort. It's the perfect riding position, similar to the GSA and felt like I could ride it all day long. Power delivery is ultra smooth and the howl from the engine as it passes around 8K is addictive. I was on the M Competition version so full carbon kit including wheels and instantly wanted one (although I wouldn't have carbon wheels) but at £27k it's a load of money for a bit of a one trick pony. No luggage options on either the M or the M competition - can't even fit a rear rack but I guess that's why they developed the M version. Stonking engine and the brakes stop it on a penny, (I'm bloody glad they do as a rather mature twat on a bicycle pulled out in front of me on the Hurley road)...
Would I buy one? If money was no issue - yes, I bloody loved it!!IMG_1167.jpeg

I would hazard a guess and say that using “just” 9000 rpm in any gear on this bike on public roads would lead to some interesting conversations with our wonderfully diligent Police Force!

This is a stunningly beautiful motorcycle but I am increasingly wondering what relevance these bikes have on today’s over-crowded and pot-holed roads. What with the Japanese companies focusing ever more on mid-range bikes, whether sports, touring or adventure, we may just be looking at the swansong of the super bikes.

I would still love to have one mind!

Yup, thoroughly agree LD, and 9k rpm may have got me into triple digits occasionaly... If you get a chance take one out on test!!!

Have you ridden any of the previous XR models? If so how does it compare?
Yes, previously rode the S1000XR as a loaner (2022 model) and whilst it was quick and smooth I never found it particularly comfortable. The riding position was a little too 'focused' with more weight on the wrists for me. However the MXR (I assume all the 24 models all have the same riding position) was the perfect riding position. Much like the GS I felt I could ride it all day long..

Restricted to only 9K...I think the difference between the regular XR and the M-XR is best to be felt between 11 and 14000 rpm..I would give her a testride but unfortunately BMW decided to leave bags and centerstand off the options list...

You can say the same about high end sport cars, yet people still buy them. Ducati is doing quiet well, BMW would like a slice of that.

I find it surprising that there's no luggage option.

This was on my list as a replacement for the Ducati
I eventually dismissed it on the grounds of

Whilst it is no doubt a superb bike ( i loved my gen 1 XR) i think it is to clinical- by that i mean it is too bloody fast and focussed on nothing other than being too bloody fast which is rather like t5he streetfighter was and not what i was looking for

I actually think that the Fun of these bikes does not begin until you reach going to jail speeds and whilst that is not a bar to owning one for me i wanted something more playful - if that makes sense

All the reviews say what an utterly brilliant bike it is and i think even in comp spec at £28K it will be a decent seller and for A - B blasts i doubt there will be much that is faster and strap a Kriega on it and tour away in comfort and ludicrous speed

This morning in Burgos, Spain, I went for a stroll to the supermarket. There was a guy at the traffic lights on an M1000XR, first one I’ve seen in the metal. The traffic lights changed and he stalled and almost got rear-ended by a car, then he restarted it and promptly bogged it and kangarooed away slipping the clutch. Poor sod probably had it in 3rd gear I guess. I didn’t know Boxertwats was in Spain!

But the bike looked absolutely gorgeous!

This is exactly why this type of bike has no appeal to me. ( I am increasingly wondering what relevance these bikes have on today’s over-crowded and pot-holed roads. )

My gen2 S1000XR had the same low rev gutless torque curve had to rev like an idiot to stop it bogging when pulling away.

Makes me happy to hear this and even happier that I bought a Yamaha Tracer9 GT+ because I so wanted an S1000XR but the dealer took the piss on my part-ex

Got a K 1200 R Sport (for the last 8 years) and am wondering if it is a smart move. Love the torque, will it's loss spoil my fun?

I sometimes lust after another in-line four, but can’t do the sport bike riding position any more so the XR model sounds very appealing…..

But yesterdays return ride from the Channel Tunnel through Kent/Sussex/Hampshire on my 1250GSA was a real hoot and despite being panniered up and heavy, it still ripped through overtakes especially rolling on from 4th gear. The torque wave is fantastic, then the high rpm cams do the rest if you need them.

I reckon I have the right bike for me. Even though I angrily slagged it off as a pile of dogshit recently when it let me down, now it’s sorted again its a really good bike.

I saw a guy on one at the cafe at the end of Glen Shiel last month. Looked gorgeous but I agree with those above - the fun starts as the revs climb and even in 1st, you’re going way too fast for the road. That is the good thing about a Super Duke or even a GS dare I say, both offer fun and speed straight away when you twist the throttle.

As a previous owner of 1 x S1000XR Mark 1 and 2 Mark 2's i can say i loved the platform but changed to a GS last year (something i said i would never do!) and can honestly say the GS will cover ground from A to B just as quick and in more comfort. Loved the XR but its handling was better than me as it would be for 99% of people so other than the M sport being a statement the std model would would suit more people more of the time as its a great bike on its own. Unless of course your as good as Peter Hickman! Would still love one mind you....
