Took the old gal off road tonight

Was only a fen byway so dead flat and a few shitty bits, had my son dan (11) on the back we only crashed once after hitting a tyre rutt in the long grass. The right hand engine bar bent about 10mm backwards just wondered if the bars have a bit missing as there is a bracket with holes in it or is it just a light mount dont know the brand of engine bars though, the anakee 2 tyres were ok on the hard packed gravel and grass but just spun up on the muddy bits/ looking for a 50=50 on off road tyre any recomendations would be greatfull cheers wayne. oh forgot fitted the end tip for tonight and sounds good

Hard to work out anything from your photographs.........

But if your engine bars look anything like these, which are supplied by Wunderlich, then you do have two important support bars missing.

Ditch the exhaust shield and get a nice stainless Mikalor clamp, it'll look a lot neater

I found the Avon Trekrider, which is marketed as a 50/50 tyre, very good. More than adequate on gravel and mud and very good on road - definitely better than the Anakee 2.

cheers threedawg with most of the tarmac roads around here in norfolk you can link up with a few byways and get to were you want to go, so far everytime weve gone out we end up on a byway, will have a look many thanks for recommending them

The Mitas E07 Dakar is a very decent 50/50 tyre. Better IMO than the K60 Scouts I had before these.

Yeah, have used E-07s too. Very hardwearing and a very good tyre on gravel, but no where near as much grip on tarmac as the Avon. If I were travelling through Africa then I would go for the Mitas - got more than 15 thou out of a rear on our last excursion to the Dark Continent.

IIRC I got about 10,000km out of the rear Avon, and over 15,000 out of the Mitas, both times two up with gear in hot countries.. Could have squeezed more out of both, but once back from my trips I change back to 80/20 radials.

If your riding in mud then you want look at karoo3 or pirelli rally. Anakee wilds are my choice on my 3rd rear and 1st front. Managing about 5.5k from each rear, i reckoni could get 6k but once it gets down to 2mm its not much use offroad. Those are more 70/30 offroad. A good 50/50 tyre is the k60 scout but they are not so good in mud.

mostly hard gravel/dirt roads with grass near me but sandy and muddy on some areas i go around thetford for the odd day out.
