Stuck in SE Asia.....Thank you Covid 19
and it astonished me have good it is and thats just the single wheel drive version:clap

I recently uncovered the Stalinmobile which had been under its cover over winter and the snow has only just gone up here so I could look at the niggles with it. I originally thought the coils were breaking down but everything soon pointed to a fueling problem as it ran 80% on choke but misfired regularly with no power with the choke off. I have nowhere at present to work on it as the garage is full so I had some work done to check the carb set up as I had put the air filter back to normal. The guy who says he used to import them (although I am a tad suspect on this) called F2 to confirm the jet size which was well out so he fitted the correct jets and it runs like a dream now. I also had an additional battery fitted in the boot so I can run a heated jacket for the passenger in the winter.

I also found it cutting out everynow and again and traced this to a faulty Russian fuse and replaced this with the spare and have had no problems since. I did however have a proble at the fuel station when I went to fill up as I couldn't get the petrol cap off. It eventually came off after about half an hour of playing with it and it turns out that the rubber seal on these swells and it locks on (any ideas how to resolve this guys - I was thinking of vaseline or silicon grease on the cap but don't want to contaminate the fuel).

Anyway, it passed its MOT with flying colours and so it was time to take it out for a blast. I haven't really (read never) ridden one before and it was very off riding back from the mot station especially as I had no ballast in the chair. The thing is a hoot and so I decided to take it for a spot of green laning (in Scotland its known as trespassing but whet the hell). The first run was up a drovers lane climbing to about 2000 feet. The views were spectacular and teh Ural performed admirably although I learnt not t go off road without a passenger if at all possible:augie It was interesting coming back down with the path heavily banked down to the right. I had to use my right foot on the side to stop the chair tipping over on one section. Later on at the bottom of teh track where it goes through the forrest in the poics I was getting a bit too cocky and when it went off the road onto the grass at a left hander I thought I had cooker my goose but some how managed to go inbetween 2 trees and come out unscathed. Time to slow down a bit and off to aqnother spot I know in a forrest on the Cairn-o-mount.

The entry to the forrest was gated off and locked but there is a foot past although a bit steep but I though wtf I'll give it a shot and the Ural just plodded up there no worries, I was really impressed. Anyway I had a good ride around the woodland area and had a great time. I will be taking my son out in it soon as ballast. :D:D

For anyone who is tempted and has the opportunity these things are brilliant fun. To say it attracts attention is an understatement and for some reason old folk wave at you:nenau

Anyway heres a few pics of yesterday. Oh and its brilliant for doing the shopping too:augie

Nice one mate.....good to see it out. :thumb2

One wheel drive is no problem for pretty much any offroading...the 2WD ones tend to crab due to no diff, and usually get into more trouble than a 1WD one would.
The standard giggle is that 2WD just lets you get stuck 100 metres further down the track. :D
If you`re serious about off roading swap your tyres to the Ural full knobbly.

There`s only one coil by the way.
If you have misfiring and popping/banging after 5 - 10 miles which disappears after being stopped for a few minutes..but then returns after another 5 - 10 miles, that is your coil breaking down.
Both of my Urals had this problem.

Choke...the Jap carbed 750 does run 'cold' and isn`t happy off choke until at least a mile or two has been covered.

Jets..the 750`s come lean as hell from standard, usually with 118 mains.
I`m running 125s at present but am soon going to chop out the cats (in the short link pipe before the silencer...yours looks the same) and pop a 13mm hole in the end silencer baffle.
Then it`ll need 132.5 mains.
If you run open pipes,go to 135 mains.

The filler caps can be a barsteward on all models, and it`s more to do with problems when they`re locked...I apply the WWID principle and just leave both of mine unlocked.

You`ll end up smashing off your rear indicator before long......I can make you a 'TarkaTech' mounting bolt that does away with the stalk if you want, just PM an address.

Have fun ! :beerjug:

BRILLIANT

How much fun does that look. My wish list just got one line longer.

Wish I had the chuff to relocate to your part of the world..... Looks brilliant

You can have just as much fun down in London. Imagine the fun getting dressesd up as Arabs with full gear covering the riders helmet and the passenger with the linen towel and fan belt wrapped round his head... what a laugh.....:D the passenger would obviously need a super soaker water gun:D

Off roading on a Ural= Lots of fun. Done it with the local Ural dealer in Leicestershire with my son, had a great day out. Especially when you start to get the chair off the ground on left handers.:thumb2

A few of my colleagues fool about on these sidecar outfits over here, but I can't be ersed acquiring one as they seem to be soooooo high maintenance. Some have been really nicely refurbished, while others are a few steps away from the scrap heap.
