Does anyone have any experience of either the Wunderlich or Touratech lockable tool box cover? And does anyone know how much the Touratech one costs? Or, does anyone have any knowledge of other lockable toolbox covers makers/suppliers - within reasonable costs?

I've been using the Wunderlich one for three years, and no problems. Good, solid piece of kit.

I had a locking toolbox cover --- but someone stole it.

The cover Steve shows in his reply is very different to the Wunderlich item I bought last year.
The current item is slightly longer but tapers up at the ends, it is fitted with slots & fixing points for bungee hooks. The flat load-carrying area is smooth without the insert shown on the older model. Although quite expensive to buy (I think I paid £120 from Woolastons) it is a fantastic piece of kit and is certainly worth buying if (like me) you rarely take a pillion.

I perfer it to a rack extender as it not only keeps the weight off the unsupported part of the rack (I know supports are available to add strength to this part) but it also keeps the weight further forward and therefore is less unlikely to upset the handling.

Unlike some other types, it is not bolted down (retained using the seat-lock mechanism) and therefore does not require you to carry any tools in your pocket should you need to get to the tools kept under the seat!

Thanks Steve, Big Al, Darryl:) , and if I must, Steptoe:rolleyes:.
I think that the picture Steve is showing is from the Boxer-design website (at least I followed a trail through Motorworks and found it there) or at least it is very similar. I have a copy of the Wunderlich catalogue in front of me with the GS Aluminium Luggage Plate and it is quite different, and as you suggest Big Al, it does turn up at either end.
But I don't think I'll be paying £120 for it. The Boxer Design one costs 82 euros (£54). There are no prices in the Wunderlich catalogue.

I think I will wait and see what Greg Masters is saying about the prodution of his, although I do wonder what he means when he says that a special tool is needed to fit, or remove, the cover.

I know it cost a fair bit (£120 was a discounted price, I think the retail was closer to £150!) but I personally think the Wunderlich item is the most useful. It not only covers the tool-tray but the exta width/length allows decent loads to be carried and it has the tie-downs as well.
It only took one rally to discover that with the standard plastic cover in-place, I was attaching bungees to all sorts of places and paint was going to get scratched-off very quickly. With the built-in tie-downs, all bungees/straps attach directly to the plate.
