I went to change the oil on my Adventure today and had the disturbing surprise to find that the tool kit is not supplied with the right size allen key to remove the drain plug. Usually I have all of the tools so the tool kit is never opened but since I was at my little hide out in alps I was not equipped. Has BXX ommitted the correct sze Allen key from my tool kit by accident or is this a deliberate attempt to get me to seek the BXX garage services?:( :( :( :(

No it's a vindictive but cunning plan by the manufacturers of Allen keys to trick you into buying one for yourself.

Get the right tools to fiddle

As far as I recall the oil drain plug and most nuts/bolts should be torqued back to their correct measurements therefor one would not consider to undo and retighten the oil drain plugs with allen keys unless in emergency(which does not include oil change). I use the allen key sockets with a bar extension and torque wrench which makes life much easier than an allenkey.

Sure it is doable with the basic tools but advisable to get the correct stuff for the job.

Cheers
