TOOLBOX for BMW R1200GS Adventure

One of the photo's on the ebay link shows a problem. It seems if your number plate can get in the way!

my thoughts

just in case anyone wants to buy one of these
i will just advise and show whats wrong and right with this box

Pros
lovely design
looks great
light

Cons
Italian number plates are not as wide as uk ones (you have to take the number plate off to open the door - and NO i am not cutting my number plate down
that small bracket that comes off the right hand pannier prevents the door from opening up/down fully - its a bit fiddley to put big stuff in

having found out the above i would 100% recommend the box for things that you always carry but never seem to use i.e. fuses - oil - some tools ,once filled with your goodies they are there if you need them - just leave a small screw driver behind the door to take off the number plate

think you may get the jist if you look at the pics - hope the above helps anyone buying one :beerjug:

A message to Mr Hooton
Hi mark if you could make one for us - you would make your first million if you could leave the back door blank, and some how make the door in the side that sits behind the pannier - say - opens up slightly over half way up ( you would then be able to access all bits by popping them in and out and have double security as the pannier would be locked on and covering the door

You're right about the Italian number plates being smaller. I've an old pre-suffix plate on mine and don't have such a physically big plate as above, so access on mine is a bit more like it would be on an Italian bike.
Current boxes from GSEmotion have a modified door - that hinge has gone. There is a replacement door on its way to me for mine.
I understand from Lorenzo in Italy that the spanish copy is glued construction.

I have also been emailing Lorenzo.

So what is the construction of his GSEMotion box - welded? Glue is commonly used in a lot of high tech applications like AirBus, etc.

New smaller number plates are allowed for bikes in Germany from this year (and maybe that is EU wide???). Would these ease the rear door problem with this toolbox add on?

How has the door changed on the newer/updated model by GSEMotion?

Replacement door arrived a few days ago from Lorenzo at GSEmotion.
The door has a seal all the way around and a tether cord so you dont lose it or even find that the lock and key end up in the gravel when you need to be in there. :thumb2
The old one as you see had a stainless hinge. It had a lod of movement. With the new door, it fits snugly. No hinge with 'slop' to allow movement and then the water will get in.

The new model door is very nice!
I am well pleased with the Italian box and yes the new German plate is so narrow that it is an "easy" access.

I just bought one from Lorenzo but yet to fit it. Extremely fast delivery and it looks well made.

Don't know if this toolbox technically needs 'E' Certification for Germany. Waiting for TÜV Nord to come back to me. Initial thoughts were that it is not needed. If certification is required, I will just have to remove it (and some other gear) prior to the TÜV test in April.

@afrisisco
You built the box from May 2011? Really? Looks to me very much like you simply copied the box that Lorenzo at BMWGSEMOTION.COM has been making.
Seems odd you posted 1 post on ADV rider at the end of December too. Making them since May. Sure...

Time you told the truth...

Hi all.
The construction of the box I started in May 2011.
First I intruduje in the Spanish and then in the global market.
The case is totally different from the ones in the market.
Door, capacity building, etc.

Sisco

Are there any cases like these for Metal Mule panniers frames, does anyone know?
