Looking to purchase a toolbox for a GSA. The pannier void fitted one.

Cymarc is robust, well finished and is fixed via 3 points, however not waterproof and is accessed by the side and needs pannier removed.

Touratech is waterproof, made of plastic and metal, not as robust and fixed via 2 points. It is accessed by the front, doesn't need pannier removed.

I have looked at others, from the states, but very expensive.

Any one have any views, as to which is the best :nenau
Any one have one for sale.

Thanks

I have a cymarc on mine,I prefer the side loading as once the pannier is out of the way the access is easier to the contents of the toolbox. 90% of the time I don't run with the panniers on anyway. As to the waterproof aspect I have had very little if any water enter it I have a drain hole at the lowest point in case any water should get in, I cant remember if it came with the drain or if I added it myself.

I use the Twalcom Raidbox available from here:

http://www.twalcom.com/home.php

It works very well the only niggles is that it's a bit difficult to get larger items in although I get a Slime compressor in there easily enough and the door isn't fully waterproof when using a hose to clean it. This I cured by adding a bead of silicon around the door. Otherwise it works perfectly and is very sturdy.

Cymarc Box

I have a Cymarc tool box on mine.

It does comes with a little drain hole should it fill with water.

The bike is used all year round every day, and I have noticed that the contents do get very damp.

Not really an issue, just wrap stuff up in plastic bags, which stops anything rattling anyway.

Do have to un pack and change the bags when I remember.

The Cymarc box is 3 point, but my 3rd point has fractured though, so now fitted with a B&Q bracket, but will get on to Mark to see about purchasing a replacement.

Considering the weathering it gets subjected to it seems to hold up well.

Cymarc box here too. Same experience and practice as Dazlove but all my mounts are holding up fine.

I also have a number plate mounted tool box that is waterproof and very easy to access. It's a bit smaller than the pannier frame mounted box and only used for light stuff due the mounting on the number plate bracket which is only plastic and not really designed for weight carrying.

I have the Touratech box, it was originally on my GSA TC & I transferred it to my GSA LC when I upgraded the bike (all brkts are supplied for both). I jet wash the bike regularly and the box has never leaked. It's big enough for a small tool roll, mini compressor and puncture repair kit. The finish on the Touratech box is very good (doesn't look like its been made in someone's shed).

Just fitted a Touratech box to mine, it's a good quality box feels sturdy and is robustly mounted, time will tell but I'm quite impressed.

Thanks guys for the quick and detailed response.
Gives me food ( toolboxes ) for thought :thumb2

Speak to Bernie from Stahlkoffer as he does toolboxes. I guess he'll be at the West Mids do next week.

Good idea, I've got one of Bernie's top boxes, ( great bit of kit ) never thought Stahlkoffer did toolboxes.

Thanks Sgt Bilco :thumb2
