Tools & Spares list for 1150 long distance touring?

I just wondered if anybody has a pre-made list of correct tools and spares for the 1150 on long distance touring.

Yes I can plod through it but why reinvent the wheel.

Any help appreciated

Good idea but how far are you thinking, and over what sort of terrain, do you mean when you say 'long distance' ???

Europe / N Africa - using trails where possible. So 'remote' is a fair description.

pre-made list of correct tools

I found BMW had already anticipated this and provided a useful set of tools underneath the pillion seat .
On 5000 mile tour of Europe and Morocco this summer I also took a puncture repair can, some cable ties and a small roll of gaffa tape (makeup and hair straighteners took up the rest of the room allocated to bare essentials ) but I never used any of it, thankfully!
Other than that felt confident with BMW breakdown insurance and a mobile phone in Europe and trusting to luck in North Africa!

For N Africa off road I take.

Inner tubes, tyre plugger + pump.
TPS
Rear wheel bearing + seal
Clutch n brake levers
Hall sensor
Coil, plug lead, plug.
O rings for QD fuel lines and oil filler insert
Clutch cylinder
Rear brake pads


Socket and allen key to adjust paralever brgs.
Multi meter
Plus the usual tools, nuts n bolts, fuses, cable ties, gaffer tape, plastic metal etc etc

My thoughts are, if you take it, you won't need it, if you don't.....

More than one bike of the same model then share the load.

For N Africa off road I take.

Did 3000 round trip in europe me on 1200gs mate on 1150 adventure
The 1200 used 1/2 ltr of oil
The 1150 used 1/3 ltr oil + had two flat tyres & the final drive bearing 50 miles from home
So in hind sighti would say a final drive bearing

You can add a Hall sensor to Tims list.
Plus a main plug cap coil if you've a twin spark.

I aslo carry a clutch slave cylinder.

And a couple of inner rocker cover "O" ring seals.

These are the things that i see failing on a regular basis, especially the rear bevel bearing.

Get yourself a compact multimeter with an audible continuity test. You can use it to check out cables, earth straps, charging (and overcharging) and a host of other electrical tests. I would recommend taking an hour and practicing with it before you go, so you can learn what to expect.

Also, take a croc clip, some wire and a bulb in a holder, for quick voltage checks.

And take a few spare fuses as well. I think machine-mart do a box with the tester in as well - a lifetime's supply of fuses and it's only a tenner.
