I am looking to fork out enormous amounts of money to fully kit out my 2018 Rallye with the above. Does anyone know where the best deals can be had to make the amounts any less enormous?

Also, do I need an adapter plate for the top box? Most places seem to suggest I do, but a couple of online-might-not-be-correct listings seem to say that it fits straight on to the rack.

All thoughts and advice gratefully received

Ta!

If it’s the OEM metal top box and you have the Adv tubular racking, it should fit straight on.

If you opted for say a Givi box, you would need a adaptor plate.

Sorry, should have said, I was thinking of the BMW Vario cases. It’s a GS Rallye TE (not an Adventure). Does the Top Box still fit without an adapter plate?

Hi,

I went through same exercise about 2yrs ago.

Yes you need a different rack for the vario top case.
I found German BMW site cheapest for a new case/rack/lock barrells, and excellent service (see below)

https://www.bmw-motorrad-bohling.co...bmw-r1200gs-2013-k50-with-codeable-locks.html

And the side cases, EBay is your friend.
I was lucky, got some from a Gs owner half price as at the time BMW were throwing in cases with every new bike purchased and he wanted to off load.

Keying the lock barrells is easy, just look up on Utube, lots of helpful vids.

Good luck

If you are interested in used varios i have just sold my gs so have a set and many other things ready to list when i get back from hols,
I like many went for the givi trekker outback top box as it was more practical, and can be fettled to use bmw key,
Pm me if interested,,

Hi, top box needs a different ‘insert’ but if you buy used I’m sure it’ll be available. I’ve swapped mine from a 2013 bike to a 17 plate Gs Rallye so they’re all the same.

I managed to get a Vario top case from Ebay - was a BMW dealer in Essex. Does need the additional bracket, which I also ordered. Worked out quite a bit cheaper than buying from https://www.bmw-motorrad-bohling.com but it arrived yesterday and they haven't included the codeable lock barrel :(

send it back.. its part of the box!!

I've emailed them. I've never seen the box sold without the lock barrel so didn't look too carefully at their wording. It does say they supply it separately but I'll see what they say.

Oh that's interesting, any pointers on the fettling?

any chance of a pic with the Givi trekker fitted? sorry to be a pita but I'm in the same boat as the OP and I'm looking at luggage options for mine.

Hi. same here... Sorry to hijack. I was looking at Givi trekker outback 58 litre top box... i can see 2 monokey plates for it : aluminium one(6kg max load ) and a plastic one (which is rated at 10kg). Which rack to go for?..... Thanks.

The alloy plate works matches the bike better and is s doddle to fit,
there are threads on making the bmw key fit ,
pm me if you cant find it,,

The Shad SH58X goes well with the Vario panniers, and is adjustable to three sizes so can be minimised in size when you don't need the maximum space.
