Top Box crack!!!!!

Well I've had the 1200 for 3 months, 05 4000 miles and checked the well documented top box issue every week and today I noticed its cracked!!

How long til it falls off??

Spoke to Wollastons today who said they would only replace it if the original if the owner who bought the bike had the top box from them and hadn't bought it secondhand!!! Apparently they would check their invoices!

The bike only had a 1000 miles when I bought it from Wollastons in July so I hope the previous owner had it as part of his deal.

just mention to them that you are about to call trading standards. A top box falling from a moving bike is potentially very dangerous, - perhaps trading standards should be aware of this greatly reported incident? If they are BMW Motorrad dealers they are agents for BMW so where the product was purchased is of no relevance. Are they saying that they will only deal with bike warranty issues if the bike came from them?

So let me get this straight - you bought the bike from Woollastons and the bike came with a top box? If that is the case, sounds like you should be covered, but sometimes a slightly different warranty applies to accessories... Guess you need to check the small print, and also talk the the head honcho at the dealer.

But whatever the small print says, the old Sale of Goods Act comes into play and the terms "fit for purpose" and "merchantable quality" start to apply... Should be a straightforward warranty exchange...

I believe that even with the crack they don't fall off, something a bit more sever would have to happen, but that’s only what I was told by BVW.

If the bike was purchased with the box then surly it all comes under warranty!
