Having acquired my second GS (the first one had given me 22k trouble free miles) I'm about to fit my top box from the old bike and see the rear bracket attachment is fouled by the grey plastic trim. BMW say I have to drill out enough space for the bracket.. ..any advice before I mutilate the new bike?

Has anyone done this? :nenau

thanks Ant

PS red is still the fastest colour!

I believe there is an official template provided with the Topbox - if (like me) yours was originally fitted by the dealer you probably didn't receive it.
I recall someone fitted their own (Dutchman?) and used a dremmel sanding attachment - carefully - to achieve a closer fit - have a good search.

Not fitted the BMW rack, but did fit the Hepco and Becker one which requires a very similar bit of trimming.

I posted ahow to guide here if it's any use. :thumb

I did mine!

and I'm a absolute numpty! No kidding.

The template supplied consists of a bit of sticky backed plastic and i used a file, hack saw and dremmel, all of which are available for loan! :)

Actually, you only need to remove a very small piece on each side where the support "legs" go on route to their fixing points.

The thought of "cutting up" yer new machine is just wrong but it's got to be done. :nenau

Skip.

...or you could buy a Givi, the designers of which actually gave more thought to product integration than BMW
