I've now got a set of GSA panniers on the GS ( 2009) and the GSA top rack..... I've been looking at sticking a top box on the bike for commuting instead of the panniers.... i appreciate I could go along the GSA top case route .....

I don't have the mounting plate, just the rack so would need to mount whatever I go with to the GSA rack frame

I'd be good to know what others have done.... and pics are always good .. :thumb2

I'll be interested to read the responses you get - I'm ready to put a top box on my GSA. Have been using a soft bag until now, but after a weekend away with a couple of others on GS/GSA, their Givi V46 looked good and worked very well. I've had a K1300gt with top box before which seemed huge but the Givi looks tidy on a GSA and works well with the Ali panniers. The universal adapter plate will work on the GSA rack so you don't need the expensive, dedicated to GSA bit of kit.

I mounted a vario top box on my GSA rack. I like the vario top box but really don't like the side cases.

Sold my Vario top box as it didn't go with the ADV rack..... still got the original GS rack/grabrail thing though ... I prefer the Tin boxes to the Vario's for panniers... more practical

I have alloy side cases too tho not gsa ones. Top box lives on the bike permanently so would be in a right state with the crappy bare alloy. The vario is usually in the small size as well so not such a big sail but easy to expand if I need it. I made a sheet alloy adapter for the rack.

Yes but only just.
I will take some pictures of the plate and fittings.
£175.00 if you are interested.
The box is in fair condition

I've had the same ADV alloy box on three different bikes for about 5 years now. I ride throughout the winter and the box is as good as new.

'Bilt Hamber' auto balm. The best protective polish you will ever buy.

Do it twice a year,I do my whole bike with it twice a year, don't need any of that acf 50 stuff !!!

I have zega pro 38l bolted to a mark Hooton vario adapter plate. I never remove it so it is just bolted right through. I have a rapid trap version on another bike and never remove that so I avoided the rapid trap gubbins when I bought the one for the GSA. I'm please with it - and it's a good size (BMW one is too small in my opinion).

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies chaps :thumb2

I've decided that the way forward for me is to take off the GSA rear rack. (And sell it)

Put the original GS rack mount back on and put a Vario top case on it .

The vario top case doesn't look amiss with the GSA side cases and its not over big judging by pics I found on here :beerjug:
