top box woes

Can anyone point me towards the latest stuff on solutions/fixes for BMW fit gs top boxes. i have had one fly off already and i think it's about to happen again, a bit wobbly to say the least. I tried the search thingy but i'm obviously not doing it right cuz nothing showed. thanks all.

From memory BMW offer an optional "off road" kit for the vario top box. Basically it's a set of bolts to secure it to the carrier which kind of does away with the ability to remove it easily.

Just had one fitted with the bike when purchased. Dealer said there had been some coming off and there is now an additional bit of kit to hold it on, you need to open the box and undo a screw to allow the box to be removed.

How much do they cost fitted/not fitted? I need to get something to act as a backrest for the wife.

I keep looking at the various threads re BMW/Givi etc. etc. decide which one I am going to get then there is another thread which brings on more uncertainty.

Got my Givi E52 from First Line and the mounting plate, backrest from Bykebitz. Had good service from both of them. Total cost about £230.Am happy with mine and haven't had any issues, although some on here have had problems with the rack support bars.

My 06 top box took a flyer about a month , it's now been replaced with the new '07 type which has different moulded bolt and hook fixings. Seems alot stronger with very little movement.
