This should probably be in the Font of all Wisdom section, but I can't access it - have just paid my annual subs so perhaps that needs time to come through..

Anyhow - I have just acquired a BMW Top Box to go with the panniers on my 13 GSA and will 'code' the box lock to go with my ignition key that does the panniers too.

Is this something I can do or is it special BMW trickery only?

If its the same as the pre-WC version it's easy to do yourself - google will show you. May need a few different wafers but you can buy a set or people seem happy to post spares around (I have some if the lock's the same as pre-WC).

It is a piece of cake and I'm no spanner monkey. The packet the new locks come in have a bright orange sticker which states something like "Caution. The fitting of this part must only be conducted by trained BMW money extractors" or words to that effect. I laughed in the face of this sticker and did it in about 5 minutes.

I was going to charge myself £100 for doing it just to be sure I had done it correctly

Thanks folks - the nice man at BMW sorted the barrels when I bought the locks for nowt so all sorted now.
