Top end power

Some of you guys probably think 7600 rev's is relaxed. It's a gs. Why did you buy it? Seriously? Would a triumph sprint not be a better idea?

If it revs to 7600 or 8500 why not use it?

All bikes will accelerate quicker in a lower gear, I would not expect fast acceleration in top from 5000rpm, just change down and wind it on, simples.

My words you guys need 5000 RPM for 80 MPH. Thats crazy. Get a 1150 with overdrive much more relaxed.
It could be a little lower than 5000, maybe 4500 when I hit 80, not really sure 'cos I get pretty laid back when I'm touring :D It's certainly 80 where I get the buzziness though!

I'm on my 2nd 2005 1200GS.

The first was very standard. It would pull past 100mph in top gear quite easily. The throttle does need a proper twist though. It's got a LOT more travel than a Jap bike. Are you sure the throttle is FULLY open (against the stop)????

The 2nd 2005 1200GS has Remus decatted headers and an Akro straight through can. It also has an accelerator module (but I'm buggered if I can find it). It pulls SOOOO much better.

I've since removed the can as it's just WAY TOO LOUD. It's lost a little of the top end "zip" but it still pulls past the ton in top.

The panniers do slow it down, as does a pillion, but it'll still pull past a ton.

Won't pull past 5k in top... yer yankin ma chain! I was out today (2005 30k Km) and top gear roll ons resulted in a smooth rip past 5k every time, there is summat wrong with yer bike mate. I do have an irritating problem with my ABS warning light tho but that's another story. Take her to the Motorrad shop and let them heal her.

Thanks guys. I have put a PCIII on the bike with default map, It has smoothed it out but still struggling to pass 5k in top. Mind you I am used to a jap throttle so maybe i need to twist some more....

Thx SJ

To be honest the throttle does need a really good twist to put against the stop, almost two hand fulls! I would like a quick action throttle but it might get you into a bit of trouble in some situations around town. If a bike like a GS can't pull top from 2.5k-7.5k then there is something very wrong with it IMHO. BTW don't expect it to rev up like a Jap multi it just does not!

I did want to tell him about the throttle but he had already bought a PC3 so I didn't want to ruin his day.

Theres nothing wrong with his bike. He just wants the fastest GS in Britain.

4500 is 80ish well it was with me and the mrs and fully loaded, ran so much better though at 5k hitting 90.
