Top Five Laminated Jackets

Heated kit is a game changer for winter riding. I wear a Tucano Urbano battery powered vest under the jacket when temps drop to ingle figures. Wouldn't be without it now. Snug fit is best. Unfortunately mine is a bit too large since shedding weight but it'll do. Taking my time over the jacket. Decided now to go with a drop liner jacket since consensus seems to be laminated is great for hours in heavy rain but a bit too compromised for an all round option. Loads of choice but lots of research needed to get the right one for me at a budget under £500 as an all year option. Had considered the Marrakech to go with my Marrakech trousers but better value would be to go with a double A rated drop liner jacket and use a throw over WP to prevent wetting out if out in prolonged rain. Tried layering up with my bmw mesh jacket but just not as warm as a decent all round jacket.

There is a chap selling a brand new Klim S4....if you are an XL. (in the for sale section)
Within your budget. A

Layer underneath or over top depending on your preference.

I’ve had the Dainese Carve Master suit for about 3 years, love it. Been through some horrible rain with zero issues. It could do with a couple more vents, I’ve also got a Revit mesh jacket that I wear on really hot & sunny days.

I'm an EU52/UK42 so the Klim would be too large (I've found klim sizing on the generous side). Currently looking at a Rukka Pathfinder R (non laminated) and a Halvarssons Vinvallen jacket. Both look to be spot on. Considered the Dianese Carvemaster 3 too but unsure of Dianese fitting and not in a position to try locally. I know that Rukka and Halvarssons are both spot on fit-wise. Both CE2 armoured and AA rated.

Yes, I've seen that which is what piqued my interest as it's a cracking deal. The Vinvallen has a bit more going for it but won't have the same quality of armour nor benefit from the latest goretex drop liner. Both would be great choices tbh.

Checked with infinity. One left in my size so grabbed it whilst I could. Seemed the best option overall due to longer warranty, goretex and better CE protectors.

I got a well discounted Nivala 1 in August 2019, so its 6 warranty has ended.
No frayed cuffs, in fact no frays at all. It washes up like new. Everything works.
Its covered over 20k miles as it's used mid teens temp and below, spring / autumn touring.
It is definitely the best waterproof jacket I have had. It is comfortable despite it being a laminated one.
I know people have had bad experiences with Rukka. I have not.
It kept me warm and dry in over 1200 miles last week around Scotland. The Thursday was torrential rain and 25mph winds. From Spean Bridge to Biggar, 192 miles with 6 1/2 hours in the rain, with the storm collar on, nowt got in.
I would expect it to last a few more years, so value for its cost is good.

One of the reasons I chose Rukka, (other than the warranty period) was based on my experience with other Goretex gear, that it just seems to out last every other proprietary breathable WP membrane. Many other brands tend to wear out or start leaking after 4 or 5 years use IME. I have a 12 year old Berghaus Goretex waterproof and it's still as good as new and has never leaked even in torrential downpours. Hoping the Rukka performs equally well.

Gonna revive this.....

Picked up this little gem today....went to the store to look for a Halvarssons Vansbro and came across this for €199

Laminate jacket that doesn't look like I've just returned home with Ewen & Charlie.
