I went to attach my panniers this evening and the top mushroom bolt is missing from one of the pannier rails? I can't see how it could have fallen out as it was tightly screwed in and the pannier connection itself shows no sign of distress.

Do these fall out or has someone nicked it?

"They all do that sir" :thumb

Wee drop of threadlock on teh next set will do wonders

They just vibrate loose - right one more than left. Never actually lost one yet. Caught them in time.

As has been said "Loctite"....or never remove your panniers.. :D

And at £15 quid each, its very suspicious...

I think BMW fit them with homing devices. Whenver stock runs low they just call a few of them back.

It'd explain where mine has gone anyway

mine were always coming loose, another reason why i got rid of the rubbish OE panniers and bought some proper ones :D

....and for the sake of balance my "rubbish" OE panniers have managed 22,000 miles of sterling service on some pretty rough roads.

If your bike is under warranty, claim on that. Quite simply, bits shouldnt be falling off.

Nice one lads, thx for the tips.

£12.94+VAT for a bolt! and no I can't claim it on warranty. Have to say I was surprised at Vines. I did mention the numerous replies I've had on this site but to no avail!

Like I mentioned before. Bits shouldnt fall off the bike - simple - if bits fall off the bike, you can claim under warranty.

If its meant to be superglued on, then it should be at the factory, otherwise its down to BMW to replace.

This just isnt on. Suggest you have a rant to the dealership manager at Vines on the phone, followed up by a letter about bits falling off. Start to bring in the Sale of Goods Act 1979, and bits falling off the bike rendering it not "fit for purpose", or of "merchantable quality". Then get onto BM customer services.

I have already emailed Duncan and asked him to forward it to Motorrad.

Watch this space.

One of mine fell out somewhere - replaced by the dealer under warranty, had to get them to fit it in order to make a warranty claim though.
As other people have stated, it shouldn't fall off, therefore its a warranty claim if it does......be firm, its the only way the buggers will get the message! :rob

Had a call from Darren @ Vines(top bloke) today to say they were recrediting my card for the bolt on the principal I was a good customer. Still pushing for this to be elevated to Motorrad.
