Hi guys,
buddy of mine is restoring his R80 and fitted some bar risers to it, but I know this is looking for trouble with the standard setup. I may be able to source a spare bottom clamp to modify, which I saw on this site.

I'm having trouble searching for the thread with the details of that mod. can someone give me a clue or info
Thanks,

I think I have seen it where someone has used a pair of bottom half of the clamps then put another set on top - then used extra long screwed rods to bolt it all together
I would think personally this would not be very solid and would tend to move when turned hard and maybe unstable
I did rise mine with a section of 1/2 inch ally and I thought that was "enough"
Doing it again or from scratch I would make two new blocks that rise and come back to the rider a little
HTHY a bit :thumb2

What do you want to know

well here is his setup. He hasnt tested it as he is still rebuilding, but I get the feeling that he will get a fair amount of flex from the setup.

I can probably get a spare bottom clamp and remembered spotting this mod. Can you just give me a rundown of what you did? or a link to the original post.
Thanks,

Thunder bought a top triple clamp for the first version of his Gambia bike, see the sticky thread in this section.

Page 5 has some good pics.

I bought the clamp off him, as I'm looking to raise the bars on mine. Maybe Thunder can tell you where he got it from?

This looks to thin to me and would be no advantage over standard..

I used a lower clamp and then machined it flat...
You also have to modify the top nut..
I then made the bar risers to gine me a height that felt ok...You are a bit limied by the wires if i remember correctly...

Her's another pic..The top mounting is for a gps

I believe that's the same top clamp that I have... made by a guy over here in the US that goes by the name "Toaster Tan"... that is not the special clamp he makes for G/S's that has turn signal stalk holders, but the one for other airheads...

Here's mine
