topbox over the back seat r1150gs

Vern's making some luggage plates to fit 1150s, you could simply bolt it to that or you can buy a purpose made one which I use.

The whole lot could then be removed in the same way as the rear seat:thumb

Wouldn't that make getting on and off the bike very difficult as you wouldn't be able to swing your leg over the rear seat area? Instead you have to slide your leg over the front seat. Or am I missing something? :nenau

Your right it's just an Idea I'm exploring
I'd probably have the box flush with the end
Of the rack at the rear to give me a bit more
Leg swinging room

Tim. Have you got any pics of the bike?

I did this a few years ago, mounting a opbox from Hein Gericke to an old seat base. I took off the seat cover & padding, to leave just the plastic base & fittings, then bolted the mounting plate to that. It worked great but, as someone posted, it makes it tighter getting your leg over (ooer...:augie)

I haven't at the moment mate, but didn't mount a top box on it btw:eek::D

The first plates I used were just a piece of alloy checker plate mounted to the rear seat carrier via a few rubber exhaust bobbins like these.

i did this

i bought a plate which simply goes where the rear seat goes and locks into place on the original seat lock fixing, locks on and off with the key.
its full o slots for all sorts of contraptions.
They are about but they are hens teeth.

I did something similar before on my GSA.

I wanted to move my topbox forward as I felt that it sat to far back, I still needed the ability to remove the seat though.

I got round this by mounting a piece of stainless sheet using the grab rail as the rear fixing point. The sheet was the size of the topbox mounting plate. I had some inch wide mild steel flat bar from which I made up the front bracket. One piece ran under the sheet steel with Inch bends at each end. These were bolted, I don't have welding gear, to a shaped piece of flat bar that attached to the bikes front pannier rail mount. It worked a treat and was easily removed if needed.

I'd post a picture but my laptop is on the blink and I'm on my phone. HTH

Ive made a new mounting bracket using
A 3 mm Alu sheet I've used some parts off my
Crap touratech topbox mount the result is a rock solid
Fitment so I'm happy now I don't feel like I need to keep an eye on
It while riding.
