I've got a big birthday coming up in a couple of weeks.:hogroast

Somebody wants to buy me something that I will keep for a very long time and I have suggested a nice quality torque wrench , maybe in a nice case.

So does anybody have any suggestions of what/where I might buy from. Nice but not mega expensive.

To cover a larger range I belive that I might need two:augie Any nice " twin packs " you might have seen?

Thanks,

Ian R

Halfords Professional range of tools are good value v quality and have a life time gaurantee.

This one should cover 90% of torque values for a GS

I was lucky enough to get one as a pressie, a Norbar, very good but quite pricey. If it was my money I'd go for something like the Halfords one.

Proper boyz toyz:thumb

If somebody else is buying it, the Snap on one has the largest operational range, with even has a little buzzer to let you know its 'kin tight'

Take the batteries out after every use though, as they go flat very easily.

Don't they exclude ratchet mechanisms and moving arts from the lifetime Guarantee though? :nenau

I know they don't cover the ratchet part of my (rather nice) ratchet spanners .

Nice kit though , you're right.....and a sensible balance of price v quality, unlike the ridiculous Snap on farkle stuff :)

conversely, snap~on guarantee the ratchets for life, but the electronics/springy bits for only a year.

they are all much of a muchness IMO unless you have a snap~on addiction.

Oh, I didn't know that - I've got some of their ratchet spanners (as you say, rather nice :thumb2 ) so I'll ask next time I'm in there.

snap - on every time but thats cause ive got the habit
they dont cover ratchet mechanisms for life but you can buy a repair kit for 18 quid and you can get them calibrated free

but halfords professional and facom have come a long way

probably as good but i darent admit it to myself

but if its a pressy get snap -on its lovelly fondling new gear mmmmm

ps the guys on vans are franchise`s so are allwaqys up for a deal for cash

+2 - having never thought I needed a torque wrench I now find myself looking for bolts to check :o

Mee tooooo. Don't use it often, but it's nice to use when I do. Comes in a handy plastic tube for storage. :thumb2

I've a snap-on, but not one of the newer electric do-dah models.

I'm just an old fashioned "click" type of bloke.

halfords professional have a ratchet repair kit, same type of thing as the snap-on .

At work we use Norbar torque wrenches, take regular abuse, haven't had one fail its yearly calibration for ??????????????? a long time.

Thanks for all the replies guys:thumb2

Sorry you haven't heard from me sooner but a few of you posted links to tools suppliers and I have been like a kid in a sweet shop ever since :bounce1:bounce1

If i hadn't already spent all my spare dosh ( and more :() on a special 40th trip to Vegas for the pair of us I think I would have a fully kitted out workshop on its way by courier now:D:D

It looks like Halfords is the most popular and I bought a nice Pro socket set from them a few years ago so I know their kit is OK. Mind you after looking at their website I now quite fancy a rolling cabinet to put my 4 drawer tool chest on :blast

I'll pop down later and have a look:thumb
