TWO OUT WRIGHT STARS of the week , Geoff and Pete for helping me with Mrs Bakes bike, ride IN and OUT of trouble.

No photos of deep pooh as I feel everybody had respect for the riders, shame as one would of made a great picture, me in a deep hole with Mrs Bakes Serrow ontop with 3 guys lifting it out, petrol dripping and indicators on.

Tossers-in-the-Tejeda is all over for 2010!

The tossers are all on their ways home and the bikes are being transported back to Blighty.

Eleven of us all met at Málaga airport on Saturday 2 October and were bused to our villa high in the Andalucian hills in the white-washed village of Cómpeta where we were reunited with our bikes which had arrived the previous day. Rooms allocated and a welcoming drink awaited.

Our villa hosts, Marie and Jenny, had prepared a range of tapas and these were followed by a superb dinner in the evening.

The first day’s ride was intended to be a relatively easy trail ride around the rocky roads of the Tejeda National Park. Unfortunately Dave Emsley, unsighted by the dust and smoke cloud trailing behind Mr Tickle’s 200 EXC stroker, managed to trip over a large rock and was dumped unceremoniously onto the trail. Armour, neck-brace and helmet prevented major injuries but Dave will be making an early visit to A&E on his return to the UK.

The rest of the group continued and made a decent of the notorious Stone Flume and several attempted an ascent of The Monastry before we all retired back to the villa for the day.

Bikes fettled for Monday’s ride, the intention was for another easy day riding to the village of Játar on the north side of the park. We anticipate that trail conditions can change as a result of rain but we were confronted with a trail that had simply been washed away by the heaviest winter rains that had fallen in the area for 60 years. Last year this was a trail that could easily be used by a car – this year a goat would have had severe difficulty. We managed 2.6 miles of extremely difficult conditions before reaching a point that we thought bikes could not be taken down. So the decision was made to turn around and make the difficult ascent which involved a combination of walking, man-handling bikes and challenging riding. The ascent took about 2 hours for all eleven bikes.
On Tuesday, a road ride past the village of Sedella took us to a trail which descended a valley; a short ride up a stream and then ascending the other side of the valley. Roger got his bike tangled in wire and inflicted a nasty burn on his arm in his efforts to remove the wire.

We followed that trail with the Wall-of-Death – the crossing of a washed out trail. Several tossers demonstrated how this should be done, but Martin and Peter tried a different approach.

Wednesday saw the group attempt the Zig-Zag – a steep technical trail that ascents a fire-break. Taxing for both riders and machines, Jane-Marie’s bike developed clutch trouble and she, Martin and Andy took an early bath that day.

On Thursday, the riders split into two groups – some opting for a ride to the coast and others to ascend the Stone Flume and Monastry before riding across the park to circumnavigate a lake (reservoir), the Embalse de Los Bermejales. Although the lake is only some 12 miles from Cómpeta across the park to the north, the day’s trail mileage was around 65. Not high by UK standards, but none-the-less, a full day’s ride.

The ride was so attractive was Andy was persuaded to join us for a repeat on Friday – Geoff and I taking in the Zig-Zag en-route, the others taking an easier trail. Unfortunately, Andy suffered a similar fall to Dave’s Day 1 fall – in both cases bike and body stopped short of the trail’s very steep edge. Andy rode on to the lunch stop but decided to take the long road ride back to the villa. Edit - Andy reports a couple of cracked ribs! The remaining members of this group ride back across the park for the final time – almost with incident – until I managed to drop my ‘Berg in the very last 5 metres of trail. The fall disturbed the bike which won’t now run cleanly and had to be towed back to the villa behind Tim’s older FE550. I’ll sort it at my leisure!

The week has certainly been a hard one and has resulted in battered bikes and bodies. But a great mix of like-minded people has made it all worthwhile!

Thank you!

A great trip, thanks for organising it Greg. :thumb2

As one of the real novices of the group, I learnt a load over the week, with a lot of help from everyone. Particular thanks to Geoff, Roger, Tim and Pete for words of encouragement and for getting my bike up bits of Death Valley and the Zig Zags. My bike would still be up there if it wasn't for your help :bow .

Some random pics from me....

The villa, where we had great catering from Marie & Jenny :D

Now, where did I lean my bike? Geoff in full enduro kit...

As Greg said, I had a bit of a tumble on the last day's riding - straight to A&E from the airport last night. X-ray Specs says 2 cracked ribs. But it could have been a lot worse and the bike was still rideable, so happy days :D .

Cheerio all.

A great trip, thanks Greg for organising it and to some great guys (and gals) to ride with, I'll get some more photos up soon.

Great riding fast and slow sections and some never to return to. Pushing and pulling the bikes up death valley , riding the mighty goat (sarrow) out of hell . Meeting off road gods and mere mortals what a holiday cant wait till next year. Then the chance to push a husaberg made it complete!! Hope the ribs heal quick and all is well again, until the next bottle of jagameister Blaa Blaa:::comfort
