Riding Etiquette
Sir
Last year I found the pleasure of some of the more technical trails was impeded by other participants from our party lying in or across the trail that we were meant to be riding thus causing me to stop and enquire half heartedly if they were Ok. I would not normally mention this but it occurred on numerous occasions thus detracting from my enjoyment of the route. Over winter while sitting in the snug by the fire I mentioned this to my grand children, who informed me that the riders who in my mistaken belief were obstructing the route were more likely to be taking part in an internet phenomenon similar to if i remember the phrase correctly "planking" this as my grandchildren explained is where attention seekers lie horizontal in unusual places while waiting to be photographed.
Some examples of planking below

It seems planking is a variation on the original theme of extreme ironing as below

Now my memory is not what it was but i do recall a lot of camera shots being taken on this trip last year of people in the horizontal position, ummm... so perhaps this is the case, people are signing up to the Tossers in the Tejeda trip under the pretense of wanting to ride enduro for the week, when in reality they have another agenda.
As i have not fully bonded with the Tossers group yet I am inclined this year in the event of the same thing happening, still to stop and feign interest as to why they are lying on the ground.
Although at some events i have attended in the last 12 months a more efficient procedure is applied to these situations, upon finding a fellow rider lying upon the trail ahead, (planking), a quick mumbled cry is made to alert the planker to your presence and need to pass, perhaps with an additional blip of the throttle, giving the planker ample time to move out of the way or chose to remain motionless for I can only presume the perfect planking picture. At this point it is up to the rider to choose the best path across the obstruction, be it ride across the bike or the planker, this decision is often determined by the shinyness of the polyester jersey the planker is wearing. Which offer little grip.
So can anyone advise me of the correct etiquete to apply in these difficult situations please?
Yours
Sergeuk
