total Failiure

I was ambling along on Sunday when I first noticed the brake failiure light come on. This was then followed by Lamp F! EWS! then the red triangle. and the bike cut out completely. I called the AA and he tested the battery which was compltely
dead!

I have since bought and fitted a new battery. I have just tested it with the engine running using a multimeter. When I hold the live on the + side of the battery and the ground on the bike frame it is showing 14.28 volts
is that correct?

I want to make sure that the alternator, regulator/rectifier are working correctly.

Is there anything else I should check?
