Absoloutely outragous level of fitness.Been watching it Col du tourmalet they averaged 19mph for the day:eek:.

The crowd near the top were wild and unbelievably wound up.Superb :bow:clap

Best sporting event of the year. The Dakar's good, as is bike racing and a few other events, but the three weeks of the Tour inspire me every year... particularly for future bike tour routes! Next year - The Pyrenees

I didn'nt realise it is such a complex race, very much team work, saving the sprinters in the middle of the pack etc.

Hopefully it will be 'clean' such talent does not need 'extra' help.

I thought the blokes in the mankinis were very brave trying to run uphill with those on.Could have had nasty rope burns:D

Just taken three lads back down to Inverness who did LE to JOG in 94 hours with no backup at all.:eek

Ive been watching since the start, all sky+. The past two days are all climbs I did in 2006 training for the 2007 etape du tour. We went with French cycling holidays and I cannot recommend them enough our two guides made hard days fun, the accomodation and food was outstanding. The routes, service and back up was all top notch making it a week I will never forget. The website is at http://www.frenchcyclingholidays.com/ and if you click on the Raid Pyreneen link you have some of our photos on the header. The group photo is the top of the Col D'Aubisque if I remember correctly and the two cyclists coming up the hill is the top of the Col de Marie Blanc.

I should point out that the Phrase "I've been there" is really annoying my missus just now.

A guy at work's Mrs did the Etape - I know how much fitter she is than I am and she says it nearly killed her. Still, she raised over four grand for her charity!

Hats off to some extremely fit people!

what always got me was they fly down hills at obscene speeds, crash and then pick themselves up to keep on going.....

It is easy to forget the TV pictures come to us thanks to some hero on a bike (a proper one - with an engine. Even seen the odd GS). They have to keep up with the action with downhill speeds of up to 90 kph, tackling some very tight turns and making sure they don't hinder the riders all at the same time as having nutter hanging off the back holding a camera :bow:bow:bow

Have enjoyed it this year ,thought Schleck was a bit of a arrogant prick so I,m quite happy with the current situation ,It should be good today with the time trial before the procession into Paris .Best sporting event bar none I love it.:thumb

I don't know if the helicopter pilots (and cameramen) are the same ones they use for the Dakar, but there's some quality flying going on as well.
