Visit Oban and the campsite to the south.

Travel on the road to the south of Loch Long on your way to Oban, the roads there are AMAZING!!!

The Isle of Mull was great, and I would recommend to all!

Wrap up warm and prepare for all weather, you will love it!

Scott of the antartic used to train up here, but he even he would nt camp in October BBBBrrrrrrrrrr

Scott of the Antactic did indeed prepare for his fatal expedition to the South Pole in Scotland. Near Dykehead, north of Kirriemuir, to be exact. He and Oates lived in a wee wooden hut throughout the winter. There is a cairn to their memory at the roadside on the way from Dykehead to Glenprosen, if you're ever up this way.
BTW - it was 17 degrees here today.

Good for you :thumb2............ and no doubt, at the end of your daily ride.......... you return home to a nice warm house and bed.

The original poster is planning a holiday, not a commute and is overnighting in a tent :nenau

Al :thumb2

Who said my daily ride was a commute? I average 2K a month all year round, I do not return to a nice warm house and bed, I live in a static caravan, otherwise I couldn't afford a GS? :rob Don't take yourselves so seriously, it might not be cold that week and your skins waterproof, are you all fairweather riders? Hardly the spirit of adventure I expect from GSers.:nono

I await your collective abuse.

came doon from the north west yesterday.......

was at Durness and Achmelvich (Lochinver) for the weekend.
Weather magic on Friday on way up. Wet Saturday morning but dried by mid morning, (Durness run beautiful). Shower of rain early on Sunday morning but stopped quick and stayed damp till Ullapool.
No frost, no snow!!!, very mild ('T' shirt gear), folk were swimming in Achmelvich bay on Saturday.
6 London hill lads were staying at the hostel. They did Suilven on Saturday and Stac Polly on Sunday, weather cleared to brilliant both days for them.Overall conditions were windy but mild. Roads were so quiet from Inverness .

Nice pics, Alan. Have you been treating yersel' to new boxes? :thumb

thanks Ronno .............

no, got them from ebay a couple of years ago , just after getting the big twin.
Aye was a good few days.
Locals reckon this week is to be an indian summer along the top o' the country. Was certainly the business for me - and the roads, jings went for three miles often before I saw another vehicle. Bikes though were very scarce too, a shame.:thumb

looks beautiful, when we get the weather theres no much can beat the west coast

aye davidmot....

it's my favourite bit o' oor country, truly magic!!!

btw there are a few SYHA extending their opening till 27 of this month - worth checking - and backing a good cause.

again btw it is possible to 'rent a hostel' GS club dig dig, mind you have to wash your own dishes, lol.

Achmelvich also has a private caravan site for tourers and 4 residential vans (sleep 6) . Maggie (the owner) is a nice lass and needs some help to keep it going - good cause -and a very lovely family site e.g. beach and chip shop, lol.

I have attached a wee pic of Dunet Bay site near John O' Groats a bit wee but nice. This is a caravan club site and has a very restricted numbers of tents now - worth phoning.:thumb, though if you want a scenic site with a good pub and food and Spar shop and petrol , it's Durness!

What a bunch of whinging wimps, I live in the north of scotland and ride daily all year round, rain hail or snow. If you were to worry about getting cold and wet in scotland you would never ride a bike at all. Just do it, it's no worse than the rest of the uk at this time of the year.:rob

Of course, riding your bike all year round in Scotland will make you fat and bald... :D
