Anyone tried both yet? I have had my Tour-X for over a year now and frankly its pissing me off!

If I could just get a RIGID peak that didnt flap at anything above 50mph. That being said I have chopped 20mm off teh front and epoxied a 3mm carbon rod to the underside of teh dammned thing. That helps but I like the rigid nature of the design of the peak on the new BM hemlet..... So .....

Has anyone got both yet? is the BM more stable/ quieter /less prone to turbulance????

My local dealer hasnt got my size in yet (will order if I want one!!! blah blah) so I havent tried one and I'm sure wont let me try one on the bike!

You views would be appreciated!

There is a thread somewhere where the BMW lid gets a complete slating for the worlds worst wobbly peak. I have to say, I've had no real problems with the Tour-X peak, but any lid that has a big lump of plastic stuck on the front of it is going to have some airflow issues.

I've seen the BMW helmet in the flesh and it looks very stylish but feels a little flimsy compared to a Tour-X (just my 0.02p) if you have problems with the peak of your Tour-x it may be because you,re sat in turbulent air from your screen, how is your screen set up?
Pull up a pew,set aside a few hours and do a search on screens or turbulence/buffeting,there are aftermarket screen adjusters to give a better range of adjustment and bigger screens etc.
It may work out cheaper than replacing your lid, especially if the turbulence/buffeting on the peak is the only issue you have with the lid, who's to say the BMW lid (with peak remember) will fare any better ? :nenau
Good Luck ;)

I wouldn't touch Schuberth/BMW with a barge pole! The quality is no way near as good as Shoei or Arai. I had a Sportintegral that was comparable to a builders saftey hat. I think the builders hat would let less water in......

I've had an Arai Tour Cross for just over a week, I've used it for 600-700 miles and I love it. It is a little bit noisy compared to my Shoei XR-1000, but it is a worthwhile purchase.

Most people on this forum seem to fit windsurf sail sized screens and Tobinators, I believe this is part of the problem... I've had a little of the drumming effect on the peak, but this is only at 90 mph + on the motorway.

I was riding back up the M1 last Friday and stood up on the pegs at 70, it was amazing how noise level and any kind of peak related noise dissapeered. I still have the original 1100 screen, maybe this is why I don't suffer like everyone else?! Or does everyone else want a "Rolls-Royce" like experience?!

You could be right there,mate.

I have the stock screens on my 1100`s and don`t have any problems (apart from angling my head down ever so slightly over 90mph....which isn`t that often anyway)....and that`s wearing a Bell Moto 6 motocross lid with peak.

I ride at least 70 miles per day, half of that is on the M56. I was sat at 80 mph this morning thinking about the supposed peak issue and wondering if I've wasted cash on ordering an MRA vario screen, I may just have one of these babys instead..............

1100-1150GS..... maybe?

I read with interest the above bits and I maybe wrong but have any of teh above got a 12GS, the reason I ask is that the aeordymanics on the 1100/1150GSs screens seem way different to the 12GS. I now have a 12GSA screen which has made it a whole lot better, and the carbon rod in the peak of teh Tour X has made it tolerable.

I was just eaking out options of still looking "trailie" without going back to a non peaked helmet.

I guess form teh above replies that so far teh answer to my original question is no-one has got or tried both yet?

I own both. Had the Enduro for three weeks now and did 6000km with it.

Enduro cons;
1 The peak does not fit flush onto the helmet, leaving little wings hovering 1-2mm off the surface. The one on the top fitting vibrates at a high pitch in anything but low speed situations. Audible. The two on the side stays quiet untill a crosswind or blustery wind is encountered. Then it makes a loud slapping sound much like your jacket lapel hitting the helmet. Absolutely intolerable.
2 The chin guard is removable and seems prone to be inadvertantly loosened when carrying the helmet or putting it on the mirrors. Very effective little thing in cold conditions though.
3 Riding with the peak in the furthest down position and the visor in highest up position has the effect of the two coming into contact. I now have peak shaped scuff marks on my visor. I'll get that sorted under guarentee.
4 Now and then the sun peeks thhrough the peak vents, but that's just nitpicking.

Enduro pros
1 Damn, it's good looking.
2 It is substantially lighter than the Tour-X, substantially.
3 The peak has noticably less wind resistance than the Tour-X
4 The 'wing' vibration aside, it is quiter than the Tour-X
5 The peak will never do a complete fold down onto the front of the helmet at high speed.
6 No vision distortion by the visor like I have found on the Tour-X
7 Most excellent anti-fog qualities of any helmet I have ever owned
8 Damn, it's good looking.

Conclusion
I believe that the Enduro is a substantially better helmet than the Tour-X (which is an excellent helmet itself).
The only proviso is that the 'wing' noise needs to be sorted by fitting buffers or the like. I intend using these felt pads with glue on the one side that hardware stores sell to protect furniture etc. Also, I'll make sure the under side of the peak has something soft added to protect the visor.

Agree with all the above MJ. The paint finish on my Enduro is rather poor however and would add it to the list of cons (way too suseptable to scratches). :(
It is easy to remove all the padding inside and wash them - which is a good thing with my sweatty bonce! :thumb
I take the peak off - (30 seconds with a 2p piece) - for motorway riding because I can't stand the drumming noise in my ears (made worse by earplugs funnily enough!).
The best bits are that it is really light and does look great, but the quality is not as good as the Arai.
I keep losing the chin thingy (anti-draught bit) and then finding it again later stuck to the velcro of my jacket zip flap!

Forgot to mention that when I take the peak off, the visor does not close quite as well as it does with peak on! :nenau

What Enduro Lid

Have just bought an Arai Tour X - (Challenge Red).

+/- 700 miles, I have to say that I am very pleased with it, no issues so far.

I don't have to sing it's praises because that has been done many times. The new colours are just the cherries on the icing. :thumb

I would have liked to have commented on the Enduro, however, having waited some 6 months for the larger size to be available I have given up. What a complete farce. How they can launch a lid & still not have all sizes available 6/7 months later is beyond me :nenau

With the Arai available and their previous track record, who needs the Enduro :thumb

I will let you into a little secret. It is not compulsory to have a peak just because you have a pseudo enduro type bike

The only advantage in having a tour x type helmet is having a bit of extra shade from the sun.
Now stop being a fashion victim (says the guy with the new rally pro jacket) and get a normal helmet.

:) immunity guaranteed by smiley :)

Rollinsdan - the screen is from boxer design, and although it's shorter than the stock screen I can happily sit at 90-100mph on the motorway with a tour-x lid. I honestly think the screen gives better wind protection than the standard ones. :thumb
Only problem I have with the tour-x is in strong cross winds :nenau

Guys

I just bought one a week ago. I did a nice 1000km trip with it and this is what I found.

- I thought the peak would give me loads of problems but under 140km/h its fine
- It squashing my ears a bit but then its new and must bed in… I hope
- It very light compare to my old full face Shoei helmet
- The visor is a bit on the flimsy side but hey with one finger pushing down from the top does the job (need to get a tinted on soon)
- Bought the VOLT design and it looks the dogs bollocks
- The anti fog inside of the visor works a treat
- The chin curtain actually works better then my full face helmets one. Must be me with the big shin then.

All and all the only problem is that I need to get something to take the rattle away in between the peak and the visor.

Cheers

Slippy
