Just been forwarded M&P's latest newsletter by a friend and they have a deal on pairs of Tourances in 'our' size:

Link

Considering I'm paying £106 for a rear (fitted, admittedly) tomorrow after waiting a month for stock to arrive this seems pretty good, although a bit more than Busters had them for a while back.

Just thought people might be interested.

I think Busters and M&P are part of the same organisation. I tried Busters only 3 days ago and they said there were no deals at the time. I'm interested in this deal as its cheaper than my next option which is Conti Trails or Bridgestone Battlewings at 40 quid more. I have never had Tourances but I can't believe any differential between these tyres is going to be that significant to justify the extra cost. How are Tourances on wet roads?

I've found Tourances to be great in the wet, but it depends on what you expect and how you ride! I think you'd be surprised how much difference there can be between different 'dual purpose' tyres - I've used loads of sets of Tourances on various bikes plus Anakees, Trailmax, Trail(Death)wings etc and out of all the ones I've tried I like Tourances the most for their combination of dry/wet grip and long life. Tyres are a very personal thing, but I don't think you'd be disappointed by Tourances for road use, particularly at this price.

Yeh, that's kinda my thinking - how can I go wrong for this price. I'm no riding god but do chuck the bike about a bit hence only 5K on the rear Battlewing. In the wet I try to be medium pace and smooth so I would expect reasonable traction under these conditions but nothing approaching track speeds.:augie

I have emailed my usual internet supplier to see if they will do me a better deal on Roadsmarts otherwise I will go with the Tourances.

I put Roadsmarts on my 1250 Bandit and they remain the best pure road tyre I've ever used (for the way I ride). I'd try them on the GS but I had BT020s on a GS before and decided I preferred Tourances so since then I've stuck with dual purpose rubber. But if I was going for road rubber it'd definitely be Roadsmarts from what's currently on the market.

My 1150GS bike came fitted with trailwings and i was surprised how good they were as i was expecting them to be totally crap having read the reviews for dual purpose and comparisons on here (and the phrase deathwings). Yes they move about bit when cranked over and pushing on but fairly predictable and have never let go yet.

Are tourances that much of an improvement as i need a new front so would make sense to get a pair at these prices if they are the way forward.

(yes i did read the font of all wisdom thread about GS tyres)

well I ordered a pair straight away from your link.

have used many Tourances (10 sets ?) over the years, cheapest was £99 pair delivered from Germany.

They are as good as road tyres on the track but not up to much off road.

Think I even had over 10,000 miles out of some of them

As a comparison the cheapest on ebay are £148, so yes a good deal.

Personally I feel they're all you need on a GS, excellent all round tyre.

I know i am risking the wrath of "do a search" but didnt find much when i was looking for comparison to Conti Trail Attacks with Tourances :augie

What i found so far seems to be the Contis square off which i am surprised at given they are meant to be dual compound ??

Ok, had a good hunt around and spoke to a couple of mates who have tried all of the above.

Pair of Tourances ordered thanks to the link bearing in mind i was quoted 85 quid fitted for a front on its own :thumb2

Changed my mind at the last minute and opted to buy a set of Roadsmarts - 191.25 GBP delivered. Lot more expensive than the Tourances but I figure I should at least try them to see what their grip levels are like compared to the dual sports and what mileage I get.

Tourences

Are these the old type or the new rubbish?.

Managed to get 6,500 kms (4,100 miles ) out of a rear Tourance on my new GSA. Am I doing something wrong !!!!

Probably one of those Tourance EXP things, unless you are really heavy on your tyres.

I usually get about 6-7k miles out of a rear - lots of two-up motorway riding squares them off. How long they last depends then on how long you can put up with the odd handling caused by a square tyre. When I had mine changed last weekend the I put it on the floor in the tyre place and it stood up by itself - if I could have got hold of a replacement sooner I'd have done 1k less on it.

It also depends on how fast you ride on motorways - a lot of miles above 100mph wears a Tourance out pretty quickly as I found coming back from Spain once. My guess is the people who get few miles out of one ride fast on motorways and perhaps change them sooner rather than later?

OEM tyres that were fitted on the bike from new. Never bothered looking to be honest. Got a new Tourance on yesterday and hope to do better.
