Apologies to Hitler if I'm copying his thread....

I noticed a deal on pairs of V rated Tourances (not EXP) at £149.99 in the 'deals' section, think its a good price then did a web search. Seems Metzeler are releasing a new tyre to suit large trailies called the Tourance NEXT (link below):

I only ever used Tourances on my GS's and rate the tyres so may buy a pair of these deal tyres and put them away until needed next summer, assuming they are clearing existing stocks in preparation for the latest fastest etc etc.

Anyone have any inside information, e.g. is it worth waiting for the new rubber or will there be high price so worth buying existing deal ???

The Tourance has been around since about 1998/99 so it has had a very good run for its money, so it would be no surprise to see if a replacement is on the way. I ordered a pair to put aside as it is a good deal and I am able to fit them myself at home. They arrived very quickly too.

Thanks, just placed an order with Busters at £149 plus £5 postage as the deal is still current, easy instant payment too via Paypal direct from my account.

The funds went to M&P and not Busters, I presume they are the same company although the tyres on M&P website are £40 more at £198.99 the pair.

These tyres might not be the next best thing, but I've ridden pretty hard on Tourances and never found them wanting, and deliberately avoided the EXP version due to reportedly poor wear rates and not much more discernable grip.

Maybe the new tyres will be a major step forward in terms of grip, feel and wear rates but they surely won't be anywhere near this price?

Never fitted a bike tyre myself Bob, how hard can it be ??

Adam,

There are plenty of videos on You Tube on how to do it, just take a look at those a few times. You will need something to break the bead of the tyre, rim protectors and some good tyre levers and also plenty of the lubricant/soap that tyre fitters use or something similar.

Getting the tyre off is the easy part once you have broken the bead, but getting the new tyre on is a little bit more difficult but it is getting the technique right that makes the difference.

I have outside information, the new ones will be better than the old ones, and they will be more expensive.

Worth the wait - depends if your tyres are bald

Worth the extra dosh - for some yes, for others no.

I would say if you have liked these tyres in the past, are happy riding on them and are a budget conscious individual then grab a bargain.

If you have to have the latest and greatest you would not even be considering a 10 year old tyre and would have gone from Tourances, to Tourance EXP's to Trail Attacks, to Trail attack 2's and currently be running TR91's, but eagerly awaiting these new Metzelers.

If I was doing stacks more miles I would stockpile some, but as I only need 2 rears and 1 front tyre a year, saving £50 on a set is not enough to tempt me off choosing one of the latest and greatest tyres, having said that with winter coming on if I needed a pair to see me through to spring these would do nicely... but I don't.

A very fair comment Rasher.

I am a quick enough road rider but no riding God, so the Tourances still fit the bill for me nicely. I used to get through 2 rears and a front, but now having a company car for work has drastically cut my annual riding however I see little point in paying more for something I can't get much benefit from eg the latest wonder compound/tread pattern/carcass. I watched a mate wreck a Tourance EXP and at the same mileage my rear tyre was about half-worn so I've avoided them and stuck with what works for me so far.

By the time the NEXT has become mainstream I will be in a better informed position to choose based upon others experience, plus the price will hopefully be competitive.

The first end-user feedback on the new tyre will make interesting reading.

Does that mean it will be as shite as a Tourance in the mud ?? :D

Courier just delivered a pair of brand new Tourances, £129.57 plus £25.92 Vat delivered (£155.49 total). Now that's a bargain!

The new tyres looks interesting ,
I tried to buy a pair from Busters but is nowhere to be find on the website!
Any one have a link ?!

On busters website, click on tyres then on tyre offers.

Tourances are on the best deal, also pairs of Continental Trail Attacks but they are slightly more expensive, but both are a bargain.
