went for rear tyre change at local tyre place, offered 2 types of Tourance, normal or M

M type about £9 more (£91) and apparently has more tread depth, haven't been able to compare but have gone for the M and its about 8mm new so certainly looks fatter

never heard of this type before and haven't seen any comments on a forum search,

interested if anyone else has mileage or price experience on these?

will see how it goes, certainly feels different but then the old one was 2mm, 15000 miles and square!!

Just out of interest, who did your tyre replacement and was it a good job and was it a loose wheel fitting, or ride in/out:)

Hi

Drayton tyres, rode in, good chaps, one of which is a biker, they order tyres in with a few days notice needed
price I quoted was excl VAT

The Maxxis Detour on my rear wheel will probably manage 5000 of mostly motorways. I'm not too impressed with its tread life, but wouldn't expect more than 8000 miles from any rear tyre.

just to prove my sanity I have checked the receipts and the last change was in late 2009 (backed up by the date stamp on the tyre) so it comes out at around 14400 miles

as I noted before its all commuting in and around the fine city of Norwich with the odd weekend day ride out in the area, so I am rarely above 40mph as a percentage of total miles

we don't do motorways over here so it rarely sees true high speeds for very long either

no doubt to those of you that do the Sahara every year or nip to Naples for a pizza its a waste of a good bike but my time will come again! as I am also big and wide anything smaller would disappear up my jacksie (that's what I tell the wife)

all is not lost - I am doing a few days up in the lakes in June and did manage to get to France a while ago

I also wonder which of you have the M rated or non M rated tyre, if you are not aware it might make a difference to your wear rate calc's

Just had my bike in for a service and given tread depth, rear 4mm and front 2.5mm, but what I don't understand is that both were replaced at same time, 6100miles, with Tourance EXP and now 12,400.

Any ideas why front would be wearing out quicker than rear?

Autobump

Not an answer as such, BUT my 2007 RT was delivered on Michelin PR's, & I was told the front would wear out before the rear. I was sceptical as it flew in the face of both logic & 30 years experience of buying tyres, but yes, front wore out first.
