Tourance EXP

Just been in touch with Metezler to complain about the tyre life of the Tourance EXP. 4000miles the rear has squared off to the carcass and the front has both sides totally worn, leaving a wedge shaped profile.

The grip has been good wet and dry but would say very similar to the old type.

They have not heard of such a problem ?????( Where have we heard that before) but they will take them back to inspect.

Having used Tourance for many years and usually getting 6K rear and 9k front this new tyre is not good enough. Steer clear of the new ones.

Having looked thru the site am going to try Conti Trail Attacks

The very same here 3500 miles front got a wedge in it rear totally shot

Great when first on but riding the bike at the weekend the front was awful and the vibration was causing a slapper if you took your hands off the bars
Alte Wolf was getting fed up of me complaining about the handeling of my bike at the weekend
Just sent them an email too

And no I won't be putting them on the bike again

I still find it surprising that tyre companies mess around with a successful formula/product. Bridgestone did it with their BT020 Battlaxe, which was almost universally acclaimed, the BT021 replacement gets slagged off for sliding.

Tourances were the same - no-one had a bad word to say and they were the default option for the GS.

I had the same thing, got new standard Tourance fitted and had the EXP's sent back to Pirelli. Took them a month and a half to write to me saying I can have 65% allowance as goodwill gesture on my next set of tyres

Why no jist buy some non EXP Tourances then?

Just had a pair fitted, date stamp on sidewall indicates they were made in week 16 2008, so are still being made then.

Only used the one set to try them out will be going back to the old ones just ordered 3 sets of the old ones

Never really liked Tourances - old type lasts well but feels really horrible even when a little squared off - seems like the new one isn't up to much either.

Dunlop D607's for me every time now, I get 8,000 miles on the rear, more on the front - they always feel great, right up to when they are totally worn out. Great tyre!

Bike is standard 05 1200GS.

have 3000 miles on my esp's front is ok but back is starting to wear in the middle,
last year i went to europe on the old tourace tyres with 3k on them and they lasted for 5000 miles more.
i am off to france next week and am wondering will the rear tyre last between 1500 and 2000 miles to get me home again or should i change it.
i love the way the bike handles on these tyres far better than the old tourace (i do no off roading so a road baised tyre suits best).
so is a tourace good for 5000 miles or would i be safer to change it

this may be all in my head, but having been running the old tourances for the last cpl of years on a 650, 1150gsa & 1200gsa with no complaints.
i am nearly convinced that new exp's take a lot longer to warm up as i have had a few slides, none ending in tears thankfully
any one else feel the same about them or is it all in my head?

I only managed 2700 out of the rear Dunlop, must say it was good thou.

Bugger. Had front and rear fitted on Saturday, at 8,300 miles. First front, second rear (the number of "look at the state of that f***ing tyre" passers-by at Ashby Folville last week finally convinced me that I had to shell out on a new rear). Annakees to date - will be watching wear on the rear (tyre) with concern.

BTW, the tyre fitter (Central Wheels in Coleshill - very professional) pointed out the warped n/s front disk. Is it too much to ask for brake discs that last more than 8,000 miles?

Old "T"'s 8k on the rear and 15k on the front.

New EXP's 4k on the rear and 8k on the front.

Both handle the same.

Won't be buying any more...unless I can get the old type.

That's 50% more money on my commute so they can feck off.

BTW, the tyre fitter (Central Wheels in Coleshill - very professional) pointed out the warped n/s front disk. Is it too much to ask for brake discs that last more than 8,000 miles?

My rear disc was changed at 45,000 miles and still on the fronts at near 50,000 miles but getting low.

Sintered metal pads last longer but feck up the discs. Get softer (normal) pads and the discs will last longer but pads wear out sooner. If your still under warranty get them to supply a new disc.

OK... Only me then. I've ordered some Tourance (original) from BMWBikeBits as they were the cheapest. Oddly they sent an email saying they've had to put an order in with Wunderlich. Does Wunderlich supply tyres?

Anyhow I'll be glad to get shot of the Anakees. They were OK at first, but they're now very square and make tight corners a bit of an experience.
