Has anyone any experience of the new Tourance EXP?
The old type was fitted as standard on my 1200ADV and when they wore out I changes to Pilot Road 1 as I am mostly on tarmac. When that rear wore out a Pilot Road 2 replaced it and the grip improved considerably and I am not so Vertical Victor.
Now the front Pilot Road 1 need replacing I spoke with the Michelin technical line who said they were not producing a Road 2 in GS front sizes and they said the rear Road 2 is not suitable for GS's anyway due to its load rating.
I now have a problem do I carry on with an unsuitable rear tyre that I really like or change the pair for something different.
The only review on the EXP's seems to be at the trade launch, is anyone running the EXP's who can compare them to the originals or the Pilot Roads?

Hi Toby,

Just done a 5K KMS trip on the EXPs. I found them great. I covered every type of road(but no off road) 2 up with luggage. I found them excellent, I was very impressed with the wet grip. Excellent on the mountain passes in Italy and Austria .High speed stability was faultless. I have a 1100 by the way which had the old Tourances fitted before. Highly recomended

Regards

Duncan

I have recently fitted Tourance Exp and done around 500 miles on them. I previously ran the stock fit Tourances.

The exp's behave much more like road tyres with a smoother ride, more predictable grip in all conditions and easier sharper cornering. I don"t use the bike off road so can"t comment on that aspect but they don't look as if they would be much cop.

Overall I feel much more confident really pushing the bike and have done a couple of trackdays on them and had a great time!

I think the exp's are an excellent tyre for the riding that I actually do and they still look in keeping with the bike (1200GS).

I am still wearing out my original Tourances - but they are also crap on the off road sections. Wet grass has them spinning like dervishes - forest tracks are Ok, but off road, off roading is not in their remit......deep mud does for them (like 3":thedummy) However, on the road I have got over 12,000 miles out of this set - square now, but no canvass showing yet so plenty to go:bounce1 I intend to get my money's worth.......

I shal be interested to hear others feedback, in readines for my replacement time too. Sorry can't offer any more help than this. But with the Tourance being withdrawn I was getting to the stage of wondering what to replace with - so thanks for bringing it up :clap

12000 miles:mad:how come 7000 rear/8000 front

Been phoning round for EXP but told they are not available yet,so where did you manage to buy them?

12000 mileshow come 7000 rear/8000 front

I get 12000 miles from the rear as well, excluding punctures:blast

How? Probably don't accelerate, or ride as hard as you? Mostly Motorway, or out of town, so not so much stop start or braking involved.

I did go for the EXP's and have found them brilliant in dry wet and the current frosty conditions.

I have noted recently instability on the "filtering" line and find that the rear tyre is nearly on the limit.
This is surprising as they were only fitted in September and the old Tourance did about 9K. I will have to check the mileage but recon they have only done 4.5K.
Anyone else experienced low mileage from their EXP's?

A note of caution to those looking to get full value out of their tourances:

Twice (long gap inbetween, and yes I'm an idiot) I have had the rear to the wire. Not to the canvas, but to the steel belting. I have still had plenty of tread left on the tyre, but suddenly the steel wite was visible in the vmiddle. Last time was on Skye, long way to a new tyre from there.
