Tourance mileage?

I replaced my rear tyre this weekend at about 7K.

There is normally some life left in them, however close inspection shows small cuts all over. I find anything over 7k and they aremore prone to puncture.

Also squirming over white lines is normally an indication for a new tyre.

I paid £86.00 fitted to the wheel.

My rear Michelin Anakee has been to the Sahara Desert twice and to the A-1 Ring in Austria plus lots of UK fannying around from Devon to the Hebrides.

Next week it's off to Poland and the week after it will get its well deserved retirement (retyrement?).

3700 whats? you must be a real power ranger.

How do you NOT do straights? do you get yer knee down in a straight line?

were you using a normal tyre or something made by the London Rubber company? Its just that hard ons usually use different rubber if you know what I mean?

how come ther are such big differences like that between Abelrider and Rugbug? Is that just riding style?
3700 miles. Im british, its what we use.
Power ranger? Well my leathers match my bike yeah, but genrally power rangers cant ride.;)

I dont "do" straights, cos I ride mainly on back roads, B roads and the twistiest main roads, so the longest straight is generally 100 metres max and more often that not there arent many straights, the bends just run into each other.
Do I get my knee down in a straight line? Youve lost me there.

Oddly, consdering the thread, I was using a tourance.

The big differences are (like i said before) down to when, how far and how fast the throttle is opened and the abrasive surfaces ridden on.

No need for the PM, no offence taken.;)

Abelrider

cheers;)

I see what you mean - and I can understand that riding hard, as you do, means you use more tyre even on twisties or even a big fella like MikeO (or myself), with kit squares off quicker. I am just surprised by the SIZE of the differences in mileage. We have people changing front tyres at 5k miles and others at 18k miles! thats 3.5x as much.

a lot of this has got to be down to perceptions of when the wear is too much, surely?

My rear I dont think will make it to 12k kms (7500miles). However, the front tyre if it wears t the same pace will last another rear.

So when is the moment to change a tourance then, a given tread depth, when you get that double take when you lean the bike over or what?

I manage around 15000miles front and back. Worn out means I am running without tread pattern on the back. And have almost no tread pattern on the sides on the front, but the centre is fine.

Oh and by the way this is with Michelin Anakes. With the T66 I got a few thousand more.

Tourance 5,000 rear 9,000 front
Ran 2 sets of Trailwings & got 3,800 out of first pair and 4,200 out of second pair.
Now running alloys on GSA , put a new pair of MEZ3's on for Land's End event and rear tyre goosed after 1,600 miles :(
Off to Germany in May so looks like it'll be back to spokes and tourances for that trip:rolleyes:

Greg,

What mileage have you done on the Anakee so far?

Bob

PS Tourances mileage for me = Front 14000 Rear 11000.

Just checked my file and found that the rear Anakee has done 6,700 miles and next week will be a further 2,300 miles. There you go, about 9k miles life (1.1p per mile on rear tyres)

Mine was at about 1.5 - 2mm tread depth when I changed at 3700 miles. Would probably have done till 4-4.5K miles before legal limit, so not perceprtion no.

just replaced rear after approx 8,500 mixed miles including 2,000 mile blast down to Italy and back mainly on motorways.

front still has a few thousand miles left in it.

Rear replaced for £92 at Micheldever tyres including wheel removal, balancing etc.

Just replaced the rear after 15,000 miles, still a bit of tread left but very, very square. Got 13,000 out of the previous one (before Mr nail said hello). £102 fitted at Buckley tyres in North Wales, top service. The front still has a bit left (2K) on it. Was getting 5000 miles from tyres on my previous bike (Bandit), so a ratio of 3:1 ain't half bad.

Just replaced a pair at F&B in Sanbach (shameless plug!). Front had done 14.5K, back 7.5K
