Tourance Next experience/alternatives

I have no intention of ever going off road with my bike. Dual purpose tyres have to compromise between 2 different riding surfaces so are not the best at either. For pure road tyres you are looking at stuff like Roadsmart 2's, Pilot Road 4's or my choice which is Metzeler Roadtec 01. They are the latest sports touring tyres and come out top in the tests that are reliable and not biased.

I have ran 3 sets of the PR4's but the Roadtecs are better to the point that I never ever think about the tyres as they are that good, wet or dry. Don't know about longevity yet as mine have only done 1500 miles but if you're not thrashing it they will all do good mileage. Don't worry about it too much as there are no really bad tyres these days. If you avoid dual purpose ones you cannot really go wrong.

I've just replaced a set of Roadtecs with Conti Trail Attacks in the hope of getting more than 5000 miles out of a set of tyres. The Roadtecs lasted about 5500 miles by which time the rear was verging on illegal and the front well worn. A lot of those miles were ridden in Scotland and France so perhaps the granite chippings took their toll, as I had hoped for more mileage before having to replace them. I had PR4s on before the Roadtecs, and the rear barely lasted 4000 miles. Anakees before that and I disliked them for the noise from the front. Wore out in about 4000 miles too. The PR4s and Roadtec were fine for handling, wet or dry and never moved or slipped. The rear tyre of the Anakees slipped occasionally.

The Conti TAIIs look promising, with a deep tread on the rear tyre. Still scrubbing them in but so far they feel good. Off to France next week so it will be interesting to see how much they wear on French road surfaces.

Done about 100 miles today and they feel bloody awful to me. No confidence in them at all. Pressures checked etc.

Thinking of changing to either roadtec 01s or road attack 3 or maybe the road smart 3.

What's the best/stickiest warm/dry weather tyre? Not arsed about longevity. Choice seems limited by the 19" front?

Had them once , felt okay , then went on a trip ... shit ... changed for Conti never looked back , interested to try the the Road 3 . For me if I have 3000 miles from a set that's fine as I don't care about mileage as I ride for pleasure.
Don't worry about the 19 inch front.....

I had a set of Road Smart 3's on my Multistrada, good all round tyre, lasted well, I certainly would try them on my GS I have now

Pretty sure I'm running them. They're fine, got about 7500 miles out of them so far and still probably a couple thousand miles remaining. Back is starting to square off but I've been happy with them. Was going to go with the pr4 but heard lots of people getting punctures.

Are the PR4's getting punctures, trail or GT?? maybe the GT carcass is thinner? as I am thinking of fitting them?

I think the problem is that they don't use metal bandind.

Some People asy they get punctures in PR 3 and 4's I never had one in quite a few sets, PR 3's and 4's used to be the best, they were so good over the rest of the market that the rest have had to improve and they have, some tyres are better now imo, and as such some reports state as well

I've had the Trail and GT versions and they were both susceptible to punctured by road chippings. The wet weather grip was better than the original Trail Attack 2's, but they understeered in comparison.

I'm now using Tourance Next and I like them better than the PR4

I've just had to put Tourance Next tyres on my GS as my PR4 rear went off really quickly in Spain and they were all I could get. In Spain on the gloriously twisty N-260 they were excellent but once I hit the faster stuff I experienced a gentle Shimmying of the bars. I'm running 36/42 as always and was loaded but one up. I could eliminate the shimmy by setting the ESA to Hard
Coming home over Glenshee yesterday I found the tyres tracked the centreline and any over-banding horribly.

I'll be interested to see how they perform without luggage and with normal ESA.

They perform beautifully.
I'm also really pleasantly surprised at how confidence inspiring they are in the rain. To me they feel better than PR4 trails which have been my fave for ages.
