Is anyone able to check or advise how deep the tread pattern, think they are called sipes, on a new pair of Tourance Next tyres.

I want to try and determine whether to have a new set fitted before we go to the Picos. Somewhere I have a tread depth gauge but I think there is circa 2.5 to 3.00 mm left and they have done 5500 miles. The rear is a bit squared off.

Change them, if rear a bit squared off by time you get there it will be squarer, thus losing some enjoyment of riding twisty's especially if it is tram lining

Or go for it in every corner and try to make them the proper shape again..

A very rough rule of thumb - one mm per 1000 miles until the last two mm which can seem to disappear over night.

You have already got more miles from a tyre than I ever have, change them.
Keep the old ones and pop them back on to finish off on home turf.

I've done circa 10k out the rear on my last GS LC. Same tyre.

Impressive mileages being quoted.........

But- if the OP's tyre has done 5500 miles already- I wouldn't want to spoil a holiday taking a chance on the tyre lasting.

I agree with the don't spoil the holiday for a pair of tyres and I already have some hardly worn Anakees in the garage, just in case so don't want any more.

On the basis that I don't want to waste time whilst we are away I will almost certainly get them changed at the 12,000 service later this month.

I currently run Conti Trail Attack 2, I'll be lucky to get 6k out the rear and front already has 1" flat/square. Like them as far grip concerned but not the wear rate. Back to Metz I think. Either Tourance Next or Roadtech 01.

Not sure what the wear-bars will tell you (other than legal or not) - but I think the general concencus is, that the final few mm of tread disappear at a rate higher than 'normal'

To stop you worrying I'd replace the pair a few days before you go to give you time to make sure there are no leaks or balance issues. Then enjoy! Its what I did before heading for Austria last year ... one of my better decisions.

I was given similar advice to the above which I ignored.

As a result I spent a day (Saturday) finding a dealership who were prepared to open their workshop and fit a pair of tyres for me; for which priviledge I paid through the nose :(

Change them afore ye go!:thumby:

My wear-bars told me that I had a about a mm of legal rubber left so I changed mine before my trip. I'm glad I did too because as I was riding down the motorway I was glad I didn't have to worry about the rubber wearing away!

I've done nearly 12k miles on mine, still some on the front and rear but the rear has squared off. Order some new ones last week to fit at some point soon when I service the bike... so if you want me to measure tread depth of a new set I can but it'll be later tonight as I'm out all day.

In a rare case of serendipity, I took my GS for an MOT and got another pair of Tourance Next tyres fitted. My tyre gauge says the rear has 8mm tread depth in the centre and 4mm at the centre of the front. Hope this helps the OP.
