Hi , Has anyone got the 41 litre special touratech pannier system as I am thinking of ordering one for my GSA. I'll probably have to wait forever for them but was wondering if there going to be better than the BMW GSA Boxes which I have on order.

There have been some reports of the Adventure panniers having some issues.

One thing that you can say for the TT set is that they are fairly well proven.

If I was in your position, I'd go for the Touratech Special set. They don't have the (IMO) unneccesary and potential weakness of the corner welds covered by plastic bits but the downside is that they don't have the BMW latches that allow ignition key operation.

I've lived with a TT Special set on my 1150 Adv for two years, it would be nice to see if the BMW latches from the new Adv panniers can be retro-fitted but I can live with the TT keyed-locks.

(You could do as MATKAT suggests and look at all the alternatives (but then that wasn't your question was it? )

Ive got the full set of BMW ones and im really rather well chuffed with them. :D :hogroast

They are of course made by TT and therefor, they are every bit as well manufactured as their own branded ones. I dont think TT would have their name linked with crap design and the use of shit materials, however, you will find that it is all too easy for some on this site, who have read about the faults with the PRE-PRODUCTION units which were mentioned originally on another similar site, to rattle it on here chapter and verse, without any personal experience of the product in question. For the avoidance of doubt, PRE-PRODUCTION ones are not the same units that we receive from the dealers. Monkeys can even copy and paste.! :thumb

There is a train of thought that people who need BIG STRONG BOMB PROOF INDESTRUCTABLE panniers, are the ones who keep throwing their bikes down the road. :nenau

Come to think of it, I dont think I have heard anyone who has actually put their money where their mouth is, complaining about the crap design/manufacture and plastic corner bits that fall off when they come into contact with the first midgey!

Oh, and if this has offended anyone, get a life. :stopbeing

I've got the BMW ones fitted to my 1200 GSA and got knocked off my bike last week (the day I picked up the panniers...). The plastic corner pieces took the brunt off the drop and survived with only minor scuff marks. However the plastic lip on the inside around the top of the box (to make them watertight) split and cracked as such its almost impossible to close them now. One of the inner seams on the box also split.

I don't think many panniers would survive a severe drop too well. Just thought I'd let you know how mine faired to help you make up your mind.

Well here you go Porker, chapter and verse why you should not even consider the Special set!

Can't stop, just chucked my bike down the road again!

'Flipp'in heck Mike

dropped it again? and not a grain of sand in sight!!!! :duck: !!

Touring Cases- get the TT ones :thumb Can't tell you how many re-bends they have taken and still holding strong.
2 mods done (that I'll confess too!)
1- replaced the self tapping screws for long bolts and nuts
2-0 replaced the locks for stainless steel ones
(+ a bit of welding here and there for other gadgets like fuel tanks etc! :D )

Thanks for all your replys, I am going to wait until the end of June for my dealer and then I will have to cancel them and try to make a decision on which ones to order. I like the sound & spec of the Metal Mules but the are as wide as a bus!
Special TT set are alot narrower.
Decisions :mmmm

+1 on MM

+1 on the MM, I installed the exhaust kit (she sounds sweet) so I could mount the same 45L's on both sides.

Still 40" wide.

Dave

yes Sir

but you do have wider highways over the pond!!! :D

:nono ton taht yna fles gnitcepser SG dluow niamer emityna no a yawhgih taht si :D

Not so wide

With the scorpion can set up and 48 litre boexes the mm's are much closer to the bike, they really are vastly superior to anything else (ask kevin and Julie Saunders) they can be taken of much easier, altogether a superior system............ As for the OE ones on the 1200 or GSA................. :( The only other alternative is to get Vern' to make you a set........naah, buy mm's :thumb :thumb

Hi dronning ,thanks for pics and info, interested in the MM With 45l boxes on both sides, you seem to have a silver pannier frame as well, did this come as a complete special set to have the 45l both sides and a new can?
Maybee the silver frames only available in the states?
