Purchased one these great looking helmets recently, Liked it because it was so adaptable. I know this is nothing to do with GS's but on the other hand .... it might ?

I ride R1200 GS TC and when I rode with the above helmet on, for the first time, I was expecting great things, specially considering the price tag but I was so disappointed. From 35 mph upwards it droned, thought perhaps it was the peak reacting to the airflow over the screen, touch it to see but no. It's a very unpleasant noise, it's as if the hold helmet is vibrating which would make any journey unbearable, now this is where the GS comes in, could it be the vibrations from the engine though I've never experienced this with any other helmet. Came home and swapped it for my Arai , rode out again and it is quiet, no vibrations which makes me believe there's perhaps a fault in the design of the Auenturo ? I do wear earplugs by the way.

Has anyone else brought one of these and if so, have you had similar problems? Your constructive comments welcome.

Have mailed Touratech regarding this but to-date, no reply !

Cheers.

That defeats the object for having a peak, yes I know you can be removed but surely that's when you wish to do high speeds, not touring the by roads of Europe keep the high sun out of your eyes !

You are correct these helmets are utter rubbish :blagblah

your best bet is to stick to your arai as this suits you better, I as a friend and to help you out of a muddle will give you £50 of my own money to take the rubbish helmet off you.

I know, I know I am just all heart........:aidan

Why would anyone buy one of them? they are made by Nexx, it is the same helmet as the Nexx-xd1, from the same factory, and it has the internal sun visor, oh and £100 cheaper, why would anyone buy the touratech version?

Don't like the drop down sun visors, never quite do the job for me, refer sunglasses. Liked the style, the looks and the light weight but that said, the noise is something else. Shall get round it somehow ! Still waiting for a reply from Touratech ?

I bought a new Shoei Hornet ADV it had the same horrible drone you are describing, I initially got around this by using the screen in its lowest position. I've since acquire a Wunderlich screen extender which is bloody marvellous

That may be the answer though an expensive one if it doesn't work. Sold one of those on here about six months ago, should have kept it, hindsight hey !

Swear glasses so find the drop down sun visors are helpful. I *can* get prescription sunglasses but they never protect the sides so I still get dazzled.

Hi Translapper.
Have one of these helmets. I ride a 2009 with standard screen. I was getting a vibe like yours and put screen to lowest setting. That stoped vibes but now the visor is being splattered by insects. As for droning sound I must listen out for that. Now that you said this I will be more aware to try this again. I also wear earplugs.

Watch this space, Nippy Norman to the rescue .... I hope ? If not, there'll be one screen extender hardly used, in the for sale section ! I'll keep the helmet, just to remind me, not to be so impulsive next time I see something I fancy!

Touratech had mailed me, saying they have referred it to Germany for their input in getting the cause of the problem. I wait with interest.

I have one of these. It's comfortable and doesn't vibrate with buffeting. What is odd in comparison to other helmets is that when over taking a truck it gets incredibly noisy. No idea what the acoustic quality is that would do this but first few times its unpleasant.

It's not my in road helmet so not a big issue, but if you only wnat 1 helmet it's worth checking this 'feature' to see if you can live with it.

Sounds like this is less a helmet problem, than an aerodynamic one. The noise and buffeting you're experiencing is from a disturbed airflow where your head is when riding in a 'normal' position. You need to make that air-flow cleaner, by either hiding behind a big screen or using tobinators/laminar lip/MRA Vario screen or similar and experimenting with it.

Having looked at pictures of the helmet, it has a ton of shit hanging off it - any vents, knobs, belles and whistles are going to make noise in the airflow...

Do the extenders really work that well??

I always said the same til I got my free system 6 helmet a month ago....now I wonder how I ever managed without one.
Bloody brilliant little invention if you ask me. Easily flipped up and down, so no messing about taking sunglasses off and on.

Getting more comfortable all the time too.

Hi Guys.
Touratech to give them credit have been in touch with Germany and they, Germany have requested the helmet be returned to them. A Helmet ( a new one and they transferred my Autocom head set, to it ) has been sent and received, so, once this crap weather disappears, I'll give it an outer. Watch this space ! Touratech have been very good in addressing my problem. my thanks too them.

Again, in defence of a bloody expensive company, my mix of kit bought in Europe and from Wales has been equally well supported/ warranted and where I've order multiple items it's posted as its ready instead of holding and batching it up.

I like mine !
