I have a Touratech Aventuro and used it for Sgt Bilko's recent USA Coast to Coast trip, covering 5500 miles in 3 weeks, so I guess that's a pretty thorough test equating to several months of normal use.
I was intending to post a review with photos when I get the helmet back from the USA (it's with the bike, coming back by sea) but given the recent comments thought I'd post a few comments now.
The good points:
*Very light
*Very well ventilated
*Very good vision (but I didn't try it with goggles)
*Visor changes are very quick and easy
*Extendable peak was not just a gimmick
*Shell build quality very good
*Minimal level of vibration through the peak
*The lining is easy to remove and replace (but see below)
*Comfortable when on (but see below)
*It's quieter than my Tour-X
The bad points:
*Quite difficult to get on when wearing earplugs as the opening is very tight, the plugs had a tendency to get dragged out on the lining as I pulled the helmet on.
*The cheekpad emergency removal system isn't robust enough. The cheekpads are held in by press studs that slot into holders on the inside of the cheekpad and then press into the shell, so if the emergency release loops are pulled the cfeekpads pull free of the press studs. The problem is (on my helmet at least) that when removing the helmet the cheekpads can drag against your face and pull the press studs free thus partially detaching the pads from the helmet. I will be contacting Touratech about this - the only fix I can see is to epoxy the studs into the holders on the pads but that would mean the quick release wouldn't work.
* The fabric on the bottom of the cheekpads is not very robust, after a few days of wear it was becoming abraded where it was rubbing on my jacket collar. There is also vinyl on the bottom of the pads but it doesn't extend far enough. Again I will be contacting Touratech when the helmet is back with me so I can send them some photos.
I didn't get to test the helmet in heavy rain or cold weather.
I've a bit of a love/hate relationship with this helmet, the idea is great but the execution is flawed. If the issues with the quick release press studs and pad materials could be sorted I'd definitely recommend it, but not until those issues are resolved although it might be that I've an early unit and later helmets are better.
I suspect the Nexx version will probably suffer from the same issues.
Pics will follow when the helmet is back!
