Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Touratech "windscreen spoiler" and their "windscreen support". Just wondered what anyone using either of these items had to say about them before I commit more dosh to the bike!
Thanks

Spoiler for windscreen BMW R 1200 GS £ 57,85
This spoiler unit is simply clamped to your windscreen. Wind protection can be improved considerably, and the noise level can be minimised when riding at relatively high speeds.
If you should then decide to ride off road, the spoiler can be unmounted easily with the clamp mechanism and packed away. Thus, the disadvantage or risk of injury when riding off road is considerably lower than when riding with a higher windscreen. No tools are required for mounting; everything can be performed at the bat of an eye.
The spoiler is only suitable for the original windscreen. We make explicity clear that the strengthing elements Hard Part for windscreen R1200GS Alu (product number 044-0380 ) should be used.
The increase in windscreen height is approx. 112mm.

Size: approx. 260mm x 158mm x 55mm
Weight: approx. 250 g

Windscreen support BMW R 1200 GS
*Hard part windscreen support* £ 28,92
The windshield of the R1 200 GS "shakes" quite strongly, especially at low revolutions and on fast trips. Sometimes it shakes so strongly that real turbulence occurs and the in no way bad wind protection of the R1200GS decreases significantly. Even using the small hard part windshield aluminium parts ( item no. 01-044-0380-0 ) is of relatively little use in this special case because the forces simply act further up. With this support the windshield is supported at more places and the problem is almost eliminated. It is very easy and quick to fit.

The support is an improvement but don't expect miracles. Adding the spoiler may work well with the support but could also make things worse, haven't tried that...

Perhaps the Adventure-screen could be an alternative to this stuff if you want a bigger and better supported screen???

Windscreen support BMW R 1200 GS

I think I could find something to wedge in between the screen and the instruments to stop the screen wobbling that costs a lot less than £28.92

Not sure why you would need the support :nenau

I've done a quite few miles on mine at constant three figure speeds with the screen both in low and high positions and have had no problems with the screen 'shaking' at all.

I have done the 'o'- ring mod to the front screen support though and that made a real difference. Total cost 10p :D

What is this? :nenau

I used the spoiler all of last season and initially wasn't certain how effective it was. Then my wife pointed out she didn't need to clean the flies off the visor as often as previously. Even stranger was being unable to get spray off the visor by turning the head left and right. There was no wind to force it off the visor. Finally found myself overheating whilst riding through the heat of central France. There was no draft into the lid. Finally took it off and not sure whether to use it again.

Not sure if it's been sorted by BMW now but on earlier bikes (mine's a March 05) the screen would rattle like hell at low revs and tickover. The mod is to cure this and had the spin off of making the screen more stable at speed.

It goes something like this:

Remove the front screen mounting screws. Remove the black plastic things they screw into (which slide into the central tube thingy). Place a snug fitting o-ring on each pin of the plastic doo-dahs and reinsert them into the tube snugly and they won't rattle. It will make sense with the bike in front of you, honest. (With appologies to Tobers!)

Like PRR said it could be worth waiting until the 12 GS ADV is out and buying a screen from that. IMO looks like it would be better than the standard 12GS screen

Used mine for a few months - not especially impressed. Went and bought a different screen - much better (and quicker and easier to fit!!).

Have you thought of trying the MRA screen? It's made from much thicker perspex and thus doesn't rattle. The spoiler is adjustable and can be lowered out of the way if it's too hot and you need more airflow to your face.

The screen only really vibrates at idle - can't say I notice it at all on the move. Not quite sure why I'd do anything about it.

Hey I like the Tech talk........
I would explain it the same way but i find that the doo- dah is much more suited to the "I'll getcha" or sometimes known as the "Hows your father" wotsit........
or is that just Bollukx

I bought the Touratech spoiler and the Touratech hard part screws (01-044-0380-0) a few months ago. Fitting the screws eliminated all screen rattle at low / idle revs - and was more effective than the DIY job I did with O-rings.

I haven't yet tried the spoiler out properly at high speed - but I'm hoping for a quieter ride - I took the GS off-Island (Jersey) September last year before I got the parts and found that I was getting buffeted quite a bit when pressing on.
