Does anyone use the Touratech handlebar mounting for the Zumo 660? I am thinking of buying the Zumo 660 and want to fit it to my 1200GS. Touratech have made a locking mount for this GPS, but it's not cheap, so...

1. Has anyone used this new mounting?

2. I am thinking I also need to buy the handlebar bracket?

3. Will this work with the Touratech screen vibration dampner, which I already have?

4. Finally, I hear that BMW is producing its own mounting for the 660, but there is little information about when this will be available and I bet it will either cost a fortune and only be sold with a BMW branded Zumo (I got an earlier Motorrad II GPS this way - it was good but pricey). Plus, this mount will probably only fit to the handlebars and not behind the instruments.

Thoughts?

mine has arrived i will post piccies asap :thumb

NOW FITTED :)
very fiddly to fit garmin mount to the TT mount.
instructions only in German  [why touratech]:nenau.
key just locks the top down IE put the key in and turn as opposed to locking with the key.
good shock absorption.
bar mount only in standard form.
nicely made.[so it should be at £100]
expensive if you have more than one bike [as it no workey without garmin mount.]

EDIT-
would could probably use the ram mount if you had longer screws.
if you had a bike with no crossbar on the handlebars. ;)

I have one of these mounts for my Zumo 660 but on an 08 adventure and pleased with it. As mentioned earlier the key confused me at first, its not a conventional lock as such, you insert the key and then the whole upper clamp rotates upwards, easy once you realise this after playing with it. Lots of rubber damping mounts and well made. Not too sure about mounting on the standard GS1200, you probably do need the bracket also.

Nothing is as simple as it should be, GS Adv owners beware, the 'U' clamp at the rear of this mount is too small / bolts too short for this to be mounted straight onto the GS Adv screen support bar, even if adapted it would make it too close to the screen to open properly. I did have a moan at Touratech about this and was advised to get the GS Adventure adapter code 01-044-0770-0 which at another £37.79 + P&P having paid nearly £100 for the clamp already was a bit over the top I thought (being nice here). Anyway I used the Garmin 'Ram' mount which so far works ok, you just need to take the back of the Touratech 660 mounting apart to fit the Garmin bracket to it. Also recommend you replace the Garmin thumbscrew that tightens the ram clamp together with a conventional locknut otherwsie rather defeats the object of getting a locking system.

It does all vibrate around a lot but that is a product of the Boxer engine rather than a fault with the mounting system described. If anyone needs more info on this feel free to ask, I worked everything out by trial and error!!

Sorry, just looked at your last photo with screen support, you can probably fit the Garmin 'U' clamp to the left of the support and should all work fine. Popped into my local BMW dealer earlier, no more Zumo 550's available, any stock reserved for the R1200RT SE which comes with the 550 as stock, no price on the BMW 660 yet but will be more expensive that the standard 660.

Ram Mount

I have used the ram mount supplied with the Zumo 660 and have mounted them on both the standard GS and the GSA.

I used the lower screen bar on both bikes. The mount was dead on, steady with NO vibrations.
