Hello out there,I've just taken the plunge and ordered some ally panniers from Touratech for my '03 1150 GS and I was wondering if i will have to move the indicators, the pannier kit is the pre-assembled 01-052-2010-0, 35 L / 41 L, they don't have any cutouts for the exhaust, just standard cases. The Touratech man (Neil) said they don't need moving but their website is ambiguous stating the indicators do need moving on the "assemble yourself version" If anyone has bought and installed these themselves then i'd appreciate any advice on this, also on how long it will take and is it a two person job? Any help would be much appreciated, Cheers Mike

Indicators

When you say Touratech panniers do you mean Zegas. If it is Zegas the indicators must be shifted. Zegas come with adaptors/extensions however you will need to extend the wires to the indicators.

Hope that this helps

Had the same size boses but not pre drilled you get 2 brackete to mount indicators on they move them back to clear boxes this was in 2004 expect still the same. Fitting is just nuts and bolts no problem, if you go to the USA Tourtech site they do lots of fitting info in english on many parts boxes inc.

the TT mounting brackets move the flashers rearwards, look ok with the boxes fitted, but awful when they are off.

you can fit mini indicators in the existing mounting positions, but they look too small IMO, or you can shorten the standard indicators to clear the boxes.

the latter option is the best looking IMO but is a bit of a faff. new drilled bolts etc.

I put Zegas on and Paul from the Metal Mule (the other contender in my choice which only lost because of my GIVI topcase) has been a real gentleman :clap and sold me the shorter indicator holders that allow you to keep the oem indicators. No wire extension needed. You keep the existing wiring and replace the two holder by a shorter version. Best solution (ease of install / looks) in my opinion...

Hi , Thanks for the response guys, as i'll be using the bike with the panniers on as well as without i think i'd better have a look at the brackets when they arrive and make a judgement on how to shorten the indicators or move them, funny how things are rarely as straight forward as they at first seem ! The next time I've got a technical question i'll definitely come to you guys first ! Although having read previous posts on Touratech i can't say i'm that suprised at their inaccurate advice, as long as the finished product is good that's the main thing. Thanks again Mike

i went with shortening standard indicators by far better than exstensions or mini indicators (too dull) the standard ones come apart the main tube just needs cutting down and plastic sleeve cut back then bolt back on you will see what i mean if you have a go .

Shorten the original ones:

Nice one Shrek, I think i'll probably give that a go ( shorten originals ),and if that goes pear shaped i'll go grovelling to Metal Mule for there shortening kit. Thanks again Cheers Mike

Do you have any problems with pannier-indicator overheating with the Remus exhaust?

To shorten the OE stems see here..

GSPep's way is easier than mine but both have the desired effect.

i tried the tube method & it's easier but doesn't clamp up the mudguard & bracket underneath properly like the OEM indicators do.

mikeP's method is better & is what i did after. just don't believe the bit about drillig stainless bolts on a bench drill. i tried it with two plated bolts in a decent size drill press & it was touch & go ;)

I spent an hour on saturday trying to shorten the originals (in readiness for the panniers which came today, monday ) and i found that the bolt/plasticspacer with tube one end and bolt the other is actually not one continuous bolt but a 5 part composite fitting with the threaded part only connected to the tube part by the plastic inbetween, i have seen elsewhere on the forum( as Shrek suggested)a different version that could be cut down, however this won't work on my '03 1150 GS. So i've ordered the shortening kit from Paul at Metal Mule, i did seriously consider the Metal Mule panniers but they did seem the "Rolls Royce" solution whereas the TT ones were the least expensive " good" choice, anyway they arrived today and they really look the business, the support brackets being very heavy duty, and the panniers suprisingly light but strong. Thanks again for all your ideas and photos, Cheers Mike

Sorry for the late answer.

With the "Sondersystem" for the Remus exhaust you also get an extension, but it is UGLY
