Touratech peg lowerers? Anyone got them?

Hi all,

There's loads of threads on peg lowering, but most people prefer the Verholens. Anyone tried the pegs from the Touratack site;

"Footpeg and gear lever kit BMW R 850/1100/1150S/Adventure
£ 102,14 Now finally these extra-large, four way adjustable footpegs enable you position them according to your needs and to the driver's body height.
Especially on long-distance trips, the lowest position improves riding comfort considerably as it enables a relaxed riding position.

Do they offer more 'length' than the Verholen's? How 'extra large' are they?

Thanks again

Regards

Colin

Colin,

I take it you mean these;

They're listed as £77.79 without gearlever kit. I'm assuming for £102.14 you also get something to adjust the brake lever as well. You do with the Verholen kit, which looks like this;

r1100gs_f.jpg

And is £100 on their website. The verholen kit utilises the original footpegs, the Touratech one looks like you get bigger ones as part of the package.

You can also just buy bigger pegs on their own;

I've just picked up a set of the verholen ones second hand and fitted them to my Adventure. I also already had the bigger pegs pictured above (you can tell how much bigger they are by looking where the rubber would have gone if you could have put it in), which make a helluva difference to the standard ones, even when you take the rubber out of them - they're almost double in size and are great when you're standing up.

I've no experience of the Touratech lowering kit, but the new gear lever looks a bit busy and like mecano :D. With the verholen kit you just get an extension part that goes onto the where it joins the lever and a shorter piston lever for the brake pedal, so they both sit lower. You can also adjust them too.

The Touratech kit looks like it's more adjustable height-wise, but will 5mm be noticeable?

D'you need lowered pegs (are you tall?) or d'you just want bigger pegs? The bigger pegs on their own seem to be listed under the 650 part of the site, but they fit the 1150 fine. They're about £65 new I think.

If no-ones got the Touratech kit, you could be the test bunny :D Alternatively have you thought about seeing if anyone on AdvRider has a set?

Ive got the Touratech set, they work well on my ADV but their to low on a standard GS. Big difference on the comfort steaks

Thanks for the replies Jon & Andy,

I'm 6' 4" and have LONG legs (35"), so the bend for my knee is the problem. I guess finding the right pegs to give me a more comfortable riding position is the aim. As for grounding - that only ever happens when the bike falls over :)

How much 'drop' do you get on either of the pegs and how much of a difference did it make to your riding?

My off roading is restricted to my modified XR650. Great fun in the Desert but crap on the road.

Cheers chaps

The touratech pegs move your feet down and forward from the old pegs. TT quote a 40mm change and I think that is spot on for maximum change. I'm 6ft 2 and 33 inside leg and I found this took me from occasionally cramped to comfortable.

I ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs most of the time so you might get even more from the pegs if you have your foot flat on them.

They are a little wider than the old pegs too so a bit more comfortable. The downside is that you have to keep remembering where they are for a couple of weeks when you put your feet down.

The gear lever is an 1150 only part and I've got a 1100 (d'oh! didn't say that in the catalogue) but I found there was sufficient adjustment in the standard gear lever connector to get the alignment right. They TT lever is a solid piece of kit and offers more in the way of adjustment.

Colin,

I'm 6'3" and have long legs (34"). The verholen kit is much more comfortable for me. The problem is, you won't necessarily notice the extra comfort until you have it.

Like trotsky, I ride on the balls of my feet and it's still comfy like that too. With the verholen kit, your feet are also positioned a bit further too, so you have to relearn where the gear shift is for a while, but after that, no problems.

Pricewise, the Touratech option could be best as you get the bigger pegs thrown in................

I'm on an Adv and haven't grounded them yet and have had some big leans (looks round for a pice of wood to touch :D)

Bit more vibration thru the feet, as no rubber on the pegs, but I only notice that if I'm wearing my Sidi Vertebra boots. My Sidi Couriers have a thicker sole.

Thanks guys,

I think with the 'crazy legs crane' danglers I've got I'd be better off with the TT pegs. MORE money to spend :(

Cheers again

Colin

just a thought from someone who is 6'3" and size 13 feet: check out the Fastway footpegs. You get extra legroom in the low position, plus somethng quite substantial to perch your size 13's upon. They have distributors in the UK and EU.

Col, if you've got big feet to go with that tall frame you're going to be better off with the verholens. The TT's move your feet forward and too close to the brake pedal for comfort.

Mark:
What extra drop do you get with the Fastways? Have you got a photo of them on the bike?

MMM:
Good point. I am also concerned that my long legs moving forward will butt up against the engine bars too. Mmmm.... get that feeling you wished you never asked? ;)

Cheers guys

ooooh! forgot that. Got H&B bars on my ADV and I can occasionally feel the bars against the bottom of my knee, but I'm putting that down to having a new riding position & the fact I tend to sit right up against the tank sometimes, a hang up from riding my 650 Dakar.

had ttech on my R100GS, very good.
have just bought Fastways from Ricky K. They seem they way to go.

Col,

as always Ricky has the last word.....They also solve the problem I have with surface area, due to foot tendons damaged a decade ago. To be honest there are`people who seem to "understand" what you need before you need it. Rocky Mayer, Ricky Kuhn, etc... seem to have that sixth sense. Trust a fellow addict!

see you sometime

Nice!

And work out at about £60 plus post, same as the T/T ones but lower.

No faffing about with brackets and possible less ground clearance.

Got to be worth a go Colin :thumb

I had mentioned it to Jim650 :D

At the moment, I'm in the enviable position of trying to decide whether to go to Oz for Xmas/New Year, or in April, when it's not so hot and might be cheaper. As I work shifts, it doesn't matter when I go, Bank Holidays have no meaning for us :D

OR

Jim has suggested shooting off to Wilderness Wheels in Morocco, do a bit of off-road down there, and watch a couple of the Dakar stages go past from the seat of one of their Honda XR400's - they've got a "Dakar deal" on at the mo.

Decisions, decisions..................:rolleyes:
