A quick query..

I have just bought a Touratech tank bag for my 1150 GS adv. and I have to say that the bag feels great but the way it is mounted on the bike feels a bit odd. It looks fine on the bike but..

The 'bib', I take it the bottom goes between the tank and the battery..? would the heat from the battery (or from that region) not melt the bib? also there was a lot of loose strap left dangling, I cable tied it all up and left it hanging just above the airbox...again as before reckon it's ok with the heat?

The bib itself looks different to the one in the instructions, a lot shorter and with a round hole in the top half, just product improvements? it seems to work ok though, just lots of loose strapping..

Thanks for your help.

So far as I know (and the catalogue seems to confirm it) there is only one tankbag suitable for all of R 80/100/850/1100/1150 GS (part no.01-055-1060-0)

The straps are kept long to enable it to suit the many different applications (including non-BMW), once you have it set up on your bike the idea is to cut the excess strap and burr the edges to prevent fraying.

No problems with the bib or it's proximity to battery/airbox or anything else?

The bibs location as you describe doesn't sound quite right but that could be your description. Mine sits at the front of the tank between the seat and the tank.

Just make sure you don't cut the straps too short for aesthetic reasons as it will come back to haunt you :o

Thanks for getting back to me Judge, that part number you have quoted is the bag I have.

Wish I had a smugmug account at a time like this...

The bib I have is between the seat and the tank, but it also has a lower (narrower) portion (which the straps are not connected to) which I have tucked between the tank and the battery.

It is sounding like I have the bib upside down, but according to the install guide and the colour pdf from the tt webstite the straps are attached to the bit which pokes up between the tank and the seat... which is how I have installed it..

Getting confused now.. :-/

Too dark to take a pic of mine so I've nabbed the pic from the instrcuctions pdf on the Touratech-USA site

And having seen it I am starting to see your problem (I think)...

My bib is smaller than the one pictured above and as you say has a hole in it (about where the 'B' arrow is pointing), it serves no purpose in my installation and mine is fine :nenau

The important thing is the bib is positioned so the clips for attaching the tankbag are sitting at the front lip of the seat And the fixing straps loop around the top frame rails on either side (bit of a squeeze getting the straps between frame rail and loom and stuff but you can get it through with a bit of effort).

You will be left over with loads of excess strap which you either clip up with a cable tie or cut and burr, if you do the former it will have a greater re-sale as some bikes need more length in the strap than others. For instance my bag came from an 1150ADV owner which fits fine on my 1150 but the straps which have been cut are too short for my 100GS :(

My tankbag will be going back on tomorrow and I'll take some pics just in case you're still struggling.

Ive done thousands of miles with mine. I cut some of the excess strap
of and burnt the ends with a lighter works great
just dont cut to much of. :)

Thanks for the replies.

I have the same bib as you Judge, I have it setup the same as yours too, the lower half of the bib is tucked under the tank and this morning I have used the lower straps to go around the frame rails. My alarm wires run along the left rail next top the air intake so I have cable tied the left hand side straps up and left them hanging, as I don't want to damage the cables.

Sounds wierd, but I have been looking forward to getting this tank bag..!

Thanks again for your help.
