Hi as post really does anybody have pics of these cylinder guards fitted to there GS12'S?, I was going to get the BMW ones but would like to have a look at a few pics of the touratech ones first.

BMW Engine guards

They are 'featured' on the first few pages of the 1200GS catalogue - on the bike in Peru. Surely they produced this brochure in English too ? They look right on the bike and also look solid - but I haven't tested mine, touch wood ! I have had BMW guards (crash bars) on seven of my last eight BMW's. The odd one out was a K100RS with a belly pan so they could not be fitted - and of course it was the only one I dropped and made a hole in the rocker box cover. Brian

Sorry ! I misread your message

Obviously you wanted a photo of the Touratech ones - and I have lent my catalogue to a neighbour ! But you will find pictures on their site on the internet. Brian

Here you go...............

(I had mine anodised before fitting. Black! Black! It's all gone black!!!)

Mike,

How does the little exhaust protector mount to the exhaust. I have a dent in the right hand side cross over/link pipe and was thinking of covering it up with one of the touratech exhaust protectors suitably modified.

They are fitted with hose clips. Simple fit but can be fiddly to do up if you don't want the fittings one view!

Touratech cylinder head protectors....as opposed to crash bars.....

Question

Can you tell me the benefits of these over the crash bars, I prefer the aesthetics of yours, do they give as much or near as damn as much protection?

Gandan I have both  IMHO the crashbars protect more of the engine and make the bike easier to get up if dropped. If I was only going on road think I would have stuck with the Guards but as more time is being spent off road have added the extra protection.

I have the Adv bars plus TT headguards.
After demolishing a dry stone wall with one (!) I'd recommend them. Had to be taken off and bent straight after though, but protected the covers.

I have recently fitted the BMW cylinder protectors - and for the first time(with my r1200gs) tipped the bike -a synchronus expression of sods law!- the protector(rt hand side) did what it was supposed to do.

I think the BMW guards look better than the touratech ones and if Stanton protectors are available for the 1200 I would be tempted towards those another time.

Thanks for the pics Shaun, like the look, arent the BM ones fibreglass or something? I wont be doing much off road to start with, but who knows give me time. Where can I mount one of those grenade launchers the iraqi rebels use for thos tw...s that just pull there noses out of side roads at the last minute or the ones that close gaps in queues just for spite!
Thanks everyone, God another choice, I hate choices, its the headaches!

Sorry mitch, I hadn't seen these before, I saw some black things in a brochure that looked like the plug leads. can I be so bold as to ask how much you were charged for them? :o
