Hi

I wondered if anyone has used one of the above. I have an 85kg heavy offroad bike and a 3-bike trailer for transporting it - a bit over the top and I am always concerned the trailer could get knicked.

Any thoughts would be appreciate.

Thule bike carrirs at Tesco Direct

Tesco Direct have a special offer on Thule towbar mounted bike carriers: £75 off their normal price.
The german ADAC recently tested bike carriers and the Thule was highly recommended.
- I bought one (the 2 bike version) and the quality is impressive. They also do a 3 bike version

Guys, he's talking about a MOTORCYCLE carrier, not a pushbike one :blast

I had one mounted on the back of our Landrover 130......on occasion, we did take 650 sized bikes on it, but if i remember correctly, it was only rated for a bike of around 400cc....I cant remember the specific weights though.

We used ratchet straps going up to the roofrack, and only ever used it in emergencies in Morocco like that, where plod were not remotely interested in tail weights or anything else.....if it looked safe, it was safe as far as they were concerned.

You need to check the hitch rating of your towbar......not the pulling weight , but the downward force it was rated to take*...I think you'll find that 85kg is way over the maximum it will be legal for.

* there is a specific term for it, but I cant remember what it is :(

Noseweight or drawbar weight

Most normal cars are only rated at about 75kg and 4x4's are 100kg

That includes the weight of the rack, so only a Trials bike would fulfill a 4x4's noseweight in reality
