Afternoon folks,
I'm just about to order myself a Dan Cata throttle body reburb kit from Motobins but first I had a read of Dan's fitting instructions. Can someone tell me why it is necessary to adjust the TPS after it is refitted to the left throttle body? I've never touched the TPS so I wouldn't know what to adjust anyway. Can't it just be removed and refitted without adjustment?

Regards

The TPS is mounted on the damper axel and simply allows the ECU to read the relative position of throttle.
When we talk about adjusting...its reference to rotating the TPS to give mV reading while its still fixed to the axel.
So no you cant just remove it without adjusting it.

The TPS tells the fuel injection system how far open the throttle is...
There isn't an absolute exact setting when refitting it has a fairly wide tolerance.
Using the bmw diagnostic you just have to get it in "area" on the scale rather than an exact spot.

Thanks Gorila. I thought there was some electrical magic to be done but even though I have a toolbox full of hammers I can manage that one.

I spoke to my local bike menders and his quote for fitting the throttle body refub kit (supplied by me), resetting TPS and balancing the throttles was roughly the same as buying a decent throttle sync tool.

Now that I know the TPS isn't anything to be scared of I think I'll invest in the tooling and do the job myself.

Anyone know where I can buy a Harmonizer in the UK?

There are a couple ways to set the TPS. Use a GS-911 on an 1150 or an LED on an 1100. Or use a DVM between TPS pins one and four. You want 340 mV for hitting the center of the range.

It will work but the Motronic interprets 370 mV as 0.64 degrees, where 0.32 degrees is the correct closed throttle Motronic angle. The range for that angle is 310 to 370.

Thanks, I'll have a fiddle in the morning .....
