I have just removed the item below from my '19 1250RS and I am hoping that it is the tracker!
I spoke to the datatag office who inform me that they can't detect it on their system when it was fitted on my bike so I was wondering if there are alternatives that other users on this
forum can recommend or should I stick with the datatag?

I'd avoid the datatool one. I had one on my 2020 GS and it drained the battery plus it kept giving false alarms. More info in another thread here

I have BikeTrak on my GS. It's been on there 2 years and been good since day 1.

The battery drain is minimal, even when left standing for a month, it rarely gets below 12.6v - even during Winter in an unheated garage.
The app works well, easy to use and change between different security modes.
The call centre/help centre is quick & responsive - whether i've set it off accidentally and they call me, or i call them
It's not too pricey to buy and have installed by an approved workshop (which gives you their security & Police support should the worst happen). Yearly subscription is also not too expensive at £100.

Monimoto for me. Had one for years and it does what they say. My mate recovered his bike through his Monimoto. The 4 of us all have them and never had any issues.
£30 a year subscription and brilliant customer service.

Thank you for all your responses, sounds like the Monimoto may be the one for me

My bike came with the Datatool tracker as an approved used bike from BMW.

The tracker was a lash-up by the original fitter and it couldn't track satellites properly and kept causing nuisance alarms. At one point Datatool rang me to ask if I was on a ferry as my bike was supposedly somewhere in the Solent, even though it was actually in my garage about ten miles away from the water.

To be fair to datatool they sent a mobile fitter out to me twice to try and fix it, then finally replace it free of charge. It isn't that great and it drains my battery pretty quickly.

If I was buying my own tracker now, I would buy the BikeTrac, a mate has one and it is much better than the datatool.

I put my money into better locks and chains instead. Layered security works. There's always a risk whatever you use but I never leave my bike for any length of time anywhere I deem to be "high risk". If living in London or another large City, for daily use I'd use a cheaper and older middleweight. Most thieves couldn't be ar**d at tackling anything they couldn't nick within a few minutes, so disc locks front and rear and a decent chain and lock plus a cable lock are all in the top box at least act as a pretty decent deterrent.

I am heading to France & Germany two up in a couple of weeks. Having watched a recent YT video where their big was stolen while they freshened up in the apartment, I'm now concerned about bike security. I am taking a disk lock but thinking of a tracker and came across the below which ticks all the boxes. Has any forum members used this tracker?

Visible deterent attached too something immovable,
If it is carted away, they will dump it somewhere for the tracking company too find it first,
If not found they will collect it again...
Plus your worrying too much....enjoy your holiday or else you will be fretting all the time...

My one month old GSA was stolen and never recovered (in London). It was fitted with a tracker and two hefty front disc locks.

The tracker was removed within 30 mins a couple of miles away (the police found it in the road) and they just cut through the front discs. So imho subscription trackers and disc locks are a waste of time and money.

I now use 3 Apple tags and two hefty chains on the back wheel. I also won’t use a new bike in London and have gone back to a 2016 model ( although they nicked the can off that within a month too). I purposely do not wash my bike either so that it looks less desirable.

Good luck..

I lock my bike at all times (and it’s an old piece of shit) but I also use a monimoto for it (and one in the car). Had it for a number of years. No complaints.
Number of false alarms is negligible.

Customer support has been very good.
The fob for my gs recently died and they sent me one for free without me even have the time to ask - device is 4 or 5 years old I think.

I have been very pleased with the Datatool tracker fitted to my RS, no false alarms, ability to switch on SMS text alert motion detection when needed, a good app and great tech support.
My bike is on a BMW charger when not in use but not noticed any battery issues when I’ve been away from home for a week to ten days at a time.

I’ve taken my RS to Germany and other countries 8 times for my annual outing and stopped carrying a security chain after the first trip. Far too much clutter. Have been lucky to avoid trouble leaving the bike outside many, many hotels.

I chuckled one morning in Cochem when I was packing the bike to depart when I noticed the Dutch KTM beside was fitted with a monster chain lock plus a disc lock. But the SatNav has spent the night on the seat:)

ps - I’m heading for an Irish weekend and have read tips that suggest a chain might be a prudent thing

If you park outside shops your office or in car parks, the best way to keep your bike safe is to buy a car, sounds sarcastic but its what I have ended up doing.

If I ever had to chose between the car or the bike I would only have a car.
Sad I know, but parking a bike in a Manchester car park or even a local supermarket would give me serious anxiety, even chains and trackers wouldn't supress.

But if i did have to choose i would get a minimoto

I have Monimoto and stickers on screen and top box saying "warning bike fitted with alarm & tracker". I still use the Abus Granite lock though.
If they want it, they'll take it!

If its Leenane you are going to....... I wouldn't be too concerned about security.

I will be bringing a disc lock (if even)

Sent with a Zen10

Trouble with any security these days is it only ever buys some minutes. A determined thief with a battery powered angle grinder and diamond cutter can get through most things. I just try and make it as awkward as possible. Trackers, statistically, are great at getting vehicles recovered unless discovered, but can also be found and removed. Parking safe is a far better security option but seldom available in major towns, so the only answer is not to leave your bike anywhere near a city centre for long...not exactly practical if its your only form of transport but a cheap runabout car is a good alternative for those trips.
