Trail Attack 3 -v- Pilot Road 6

Gonna throw another into the mix here. Just put Dunlop Mutants on mine, and really liking them so far - incredibly quiet, very precise and neutral handling - quick without being twitchy or tipping in. I've not tested them in the wet, though they have a very good reputation in that department. We'll see.
If you ride hard , they dont last as well as the TA3 , and the block design does give and weave a bit , as a good safe tyre , brilliant .
The TA3 acts like a Swiss Knife , great in all situations , bit like the V4s

Maybe TA3 for me next time looking at all the good reviews

Great on the BM as well , ran them since they came out , tried all sorts and always came back to the TA3 , sold loads of Dunlops , Metzelers etc on here as after tests decided they just not as good.

Reading this thread makes me want to sell my A41s & fork out for some CTA3s for my 15 plate LC, I wanted to wear them out but I’m not “feeling” the A41s. Shame as they are like new! (On the bike that I bought in January)

What pressures are you running?

I ask as I find the recommended pressures 36/42 on the high side. Less noticeable with the TA3 mind.

I have been running PR6’s for last year and have covered 10,200 miles, I run them at slightly higher than the 36/42, something 38/44, mainly because I’m a sturdy 120kg. Still plenty of tread and mileage left. I have 2600 miles till the next service and if I can get the tyres to last I’ll replace them then, and will more than likely go for another set.

Although I was really impressed with Roadtec 01, that I covered almost 14,000 with, (only used these as I don’t go off road, and my work bike ran these and were faultless, from cold starts in the dry and and wet).

All my BMW’s since Aug 18 have been 1200/1250 GSA’s, and been run at slightly higher pressures. I rate the PR6 and Roadtec 01 (not sure on the new Roadtec tyres though).

I run the same with the TA3 & they feel much much better than the OE Anakees..

I would be interested to know what sort of mileage people are getting from there road 6.
Have them on my 1200gs and find the OK

Never used the Road 6 but had the Road 5 1500 miles max hard riding 2k max winter as they go off at 1200 miles as they are a wet tyre and the treads encourage fast wear. Trust me Conti TA3 is the best choice.

Must have made some great changes on the road 6 as I've covered 3200 miles mostly covered on a trip to the dolomites & Switzerland fully loaded last year & have just measured the tread depth with my digital tyre gauge and according to that I still have 5mm tread left on the rear. (y)

After picking up a chunk of steel in my rear OEM A41 tyre last weekend I had a pair of TA3s fitted on Thursday.
Done about 300 miles on them today, I’m no Valentino but the Contis are so much better than the Bridgestones.
Also add a big thumbs up to R.A.D. Motorcycles in Northampton for the tyre swap. Top job 👍🏻

I have long been a fan of the Pilot Road tyre series and have always been puzzled by the folk who say they are really puncture prone......... until now.

My tyres have done around 6500 to 7000 miles and I was planning to replace the rear very soon. Last Friday, I suffered not one puncture,........ not two punctures,......... but three holes in one tyre in one day!

These were caused by sharp grit I think I picked up around some roadworks and with the carcass of the tyre being relatively thin, they gradually all made their way into the tyre.

Fortunately I had plenty of sticky strings and a new Innov battery inflator which is worth its weight in gold!

One of the holes was so small I couldn't get the reamer into it so I was given one of these screw in plugs which I haven't seen before. I'll be buying some to add to my kit and a new PR6 rear is being fitted tomorrow.

Bugger, they say bad things come in threes!

I’d bought some of those screw things for my puncture kit some time ago but not had to use them, so I appreciate your recommendation.

I bought them after I had a puncture in my car last year and I was quite confident that I could repair it, having repaired punctures a number of times before.
Getting the small T handled reamer to drill out the hole was impossible and hence the strings wouldn’t go in.

Lesson learned.

I immediately bought a quality reamer tool and also those screw thingys you referred to.

Fingers crossed now.

BTW I’m a long term Trail Attack fan, bloomin marvellous tyres.

Loved my PR6 - but have now fitted a set of Metz Roadtec 02 - they are also very good indeed!!

I'm tempted to try the TA3s Brian but my tyre guy doesn't sell them and it's a bit like when you go for a curry. You want to try something new but you always end up having the same old favourite.
It was only a rear tyre anyway so maybe next time ......
