Since 2011 Possu and I have been running several trail riding weekends in Wiltshire per year, and one of them is always dedicated to our friends from abroad, affectionately called 'Clogfest', as most of the participants are coming from the Dutch-speaking part of the continent.

This year they were all invited again but pulled out with more or less poor excuses: getting married, building houses, still recovering from injuries, touring elsewhere - so we ended up with around twenty riders from the UK and our token Belgian Pix.

It was still a pretty multi-national bunch gathering in Wilcot near Pewsey last weekend -

Me from Germany and Ange & Tim from North Wales...

Gosia from Poland and Bill from Liverpool

Within five minutes of arrival, Gosia had most of the men at her feet...:augie

We split into three groups and, after a hearty breakfast in the barn, set off around 9am

Wait for me, I'm just finishing my tea, called Ange

After several days of rain the week before, we were really lucky with the weather and already shed some layers at the end of the second trail

Lawn Mower Lane was surprisingly well cut this time
P1080733_01-L.jpg

Don't you wish you had opposable thumbs, when you watch those humans having fun?
P1080735_01-L.jpg

Yes, we are very lucky!
P1080737_01-L.jpg

The byway near Everleigh didn't disappoint - every year we think we are the only ones using this lane

Sewer Alley near Bulford Camp was entertainingly slippery again

To show my group that there was no shame in falling off, I laid my bike down twice in short succession... :mmmm

Learning from my experience, the others stayed in the deeper side ruts - Ilse

... where the going was slower but a lot safer - Bill

Much appreciated by the riders from further afield

However, the main reason for me taking this route at this time of the year comes after crossing the A303... :augie

I may have mentioned before that I absolutely adore piglets? ;)

Our bikes (and their muddy state) attracted some attention
P1080836_01-L.jpg

As people were getting tired, we cut the loop short and headed back to the campsite.

Possu's group arrived shortly afterwards, all in one piece - always a relief...

Thanks, PJ, sorry to hear about the rain on your side of the Severn...

See, I'm always making flippin tea for Ange

Of course, Tim, that's one of your two redeeming features according to Ange... :P

With Gosia having to look after her little daughter and Bill after his heart, my group had shrunk a bit, leaving Ilse, Ange and Nick

Honestly, I haven't been filming - trust me... :augie
P1080854-L.jpg

We didn't and at the next opportunity we sent Nick home - to continue the ride as proper 'Dirty Girls'

Heath Lane near Buttermere - I've never seen the trail that overgrown!
P1080868_01-L.jpg

My fellow riders were not impressed - and it took a while until they emerged from the undergrowth...

As people still had a long way home that day, we had promised to be back at the campsite for 2 o'clock. The question 'lunch and road' or 'let's do some more trails while we are here' was decided in favour of the latter, and we even explored some new lanes on the return journey, which involved high grass, muddy ruts and surprisingly deep puddles... :augie The boys had split and were already back escorting Stu or arrived shortly afterwards, having had - thank God for that - no further tumbles.

I already noticed this in Portugal; trail riding seems to bring out Beefiddler's true character
P1080870-L.jpg

We had a few drinks, exchanged our stories, thanked Pat, Dave and Callum for looking after us so well again, packed up and said goodbye to our biking buddies -
P1080873_01-L.jpg

Thanks everyone for another brilliant Wiltshire Weekend - until the next time!

Great report and photos Ela, you girls are certainly more easy on the eye than the ugly bunch I was riding with :D

That looks like you had a great weekend. Thanks for the write-up and photos. It'll encourage me to work towards doing something similar when I have some more experience under my belt.
